System Tasks Don't Display

I'm using 2009 BitDefender Anti Virus software. In Advanced View, clicking on AntiVirus on the left of the window and then Virus Scan at the top of the window, System Tasks is collapsed with no options (Deep Scan, Full Scan or Quick Scan) displayed below it. I have called Bitdefender and was disconnected, I've chatted twice (given fixes that did not fix the problem) and emailed twice with no responses yet. I currently cannot scan or schedule a scan. BD has supplied a patch called bdTasksReplace.bat that, so far, has not worked.

Do any of you know a fix for this? I'm into my second year with BD but am close to requesting a refund and moving on. Does anyone know a better, more reliable maker of anti virus software?

  • We have a patch that targets this issue - I will send it to you by e-mail in a couple of minutes.

  • Also have the same problem. Please send me also the patch.

Can't this be fixed permanently with the regular updates?

  • Hello salvador,

You can access the patches we have mentioned in this topic on this KB article:

    Thank you!

  • Hi Diana,

The patch did not resolve the issue. Actually, the link to patch provided is quite different than the issue mentioned where the "System Tasks" options are not shown under "Virus Scan" tab in "Advanced view".

  • Hello salvador,

The first set of patches listed in that KB article address the issue you have mentioned.

Please be so kind as to tell us: which operating system you are using, if you have UAC enabled for the current user and which set of patches from that KB article you ran on the computer.

  • Hi Diana,

I am using Windows Vista Ultimate (32bit)with latest updates. I did use the first patch (patch_tasks_system_32bit.exe) and it did not resolve the issue.

The UAC is enabled, but I do get the prompt to proceed with running the file. I hope I do not have to disable UAC, then reboot, then apply the patch, then enable back the UAC, otherwise, uninstalling and reinstalling will be an easier alternative, but I am holding it and see if you could get the problem rectified.

In case the issue is related, I noticed that the BD notification icon will not show sometimes although the BD services are running and Windows Security Center reports that Bitdefender is running. This has been noticed even before the issue above occured. There are also times where the main window will refuse to show up, either launching it via notification icon or via the program itself.

  • Hello salvador,
