Bd 10 & Firefox

I have noticed that when I have real time protection enabled, it takes several minutes to launch firefox. It doesn't happen with IE 7. Is there a way to fix this short of disabling the real time protection?

  • Hi!

The slow loading could due to de large amount of cookies and offline files stored by Firefox in local cache. Clear the personal info folder and see if the slow loading persists.

Tried that but it did not help. Any other suggestions?

Is keeping the real time protection enabled that important?

  • If you turn off real-time protection , you open a door for all kind of malware that hang on the internet. What I can suggest you furthermore is:

    1. set the protection level of BD to Normal or Permisiv

    2. Set the maximum file-size BD should scan to a lower value by going to Antivirus-Personal level and click on "Don't scan files greater than...".

    3. You can set BD not to scan insisde archives, which can be slow.

  • Hello

Strange I am using Firefox 2.0.0.3 and it loads after a few seconds.

How many add-ons have you installed in firefox? The amount can increase the loading time. There are some extensions that could cause conflicts take a look here : http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions If you want to speed up Firefox take a look here: http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_1.html

I have several add ons installed in firefox. Probably 6-8. Will disabling some of them do the trick and speed it up even more or do I actually need to uninstall?

    Paul

  • Even after uninstalling several add-ons it still takes 12-15 seconds for firefox to launch.

I am running Windows XP, P3, 933 MHZ, 512MB ram Dell. I know it used to launch quicker than that. Not sure what else could be causing the slow down. Especially since IE will launch very quickly.

  • Hello

Did you check the other link I gave you? Try this also righclick on the shortcut of Firefox, choose properties, targetline and change it to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" /Prefetch:1 Normally it will load quicker.
