Bitdefender 2010 Antivirus X Svn Clients

Hello,

BitDefender 2010 Antivirus is blocking propfind command from svn clients whenever accessing repositories using http protocol. I tried disabling modules, but it did not work. Only workaround was to actually uninstall the product or use windows in safe mode!!! By the way, I'm using win7 x64.

Thanks!

    Thank you .

  • Hello Alex,

    I followed exactly the steps you mentioned and problem still persists. Is there a way to activate log and send you a file with it when the problem happens?

    Hello David Flam,

    Please try the next steps and let us know what happened:

    1. Start your computer in Safe Mode :

    - restart the computer;

    - repeatedly press the "F8" key several times before Microsoft Windows begins

    to load (you need to press "F8" until you will be displayed a text menu);

    - select "SAFE MODE" in the text menu and press "Enter".

    - wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation

    message; click "Yes" to acknowledge.

    2. Go to the next location : C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2010 look after the file called "httproxy.dll" and rename it in "httproxy.d_", for example .

    3. Start your computer in Normal Mode and let us know the results.

    Thank you.

  • Hello Alex,

    it is working now! Should I keep this way or this is just a workaround? How may I help you in order fix this problem permanently (releasing a software update for other users)?

    Thanks

  • After restarting my computer again, httpproxy.dll is back, not working again! Maybe an update did this?

    Thanks

  • You must disable automatic update if you want to keep the changes you made to BitDefender files.

    Can you specify what svn client do you use and what is the version of your svn server?

    Can you set the server to use the https protocol?

  • Hello Berneanu,

    indeed, disabling automatic updates will work, but I don't think it's a good idea. A lot of dangerous plagues are available each day :S.

    Unfortunately, I can't use https protocol anymore, it worked, but now the server just accepts non secure connections. Server is using latest svn version, 1.6.5. I tried using latest versions from svnkit, javahl (inside Eclipse) and the standalone tortoise svn.

    Thanks!

  • You don't have to disable signature updates, just program updates. But I agree with you, it is not a long term solution.

    Here is a better workaround:

    - open regedit and create a value in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BitDefender" named "HttpAppSkip" and with type "Multi-String Value"

    - edit the value and set it's data to the complete path of the program(s) you want to exclude from http scanning completly (you can have multiple entries)

    - reboot

    In the end you should still have http scanning for your browsers, but not for your svn client.

  • Hi,

    I'm having the same problem with tortoiseSVN in Windows 7 x86 with Bitdefender 2010 Internet Security.

  • Hello DannyRulez,

    Please try the steps described by Cris here and modify them for the application (tortoiseSVN ) that you want to exclude from scanning.

    Thank you .

  • I was able to get tortoise svn work by disbaling firewall temporarily..

    but everytime I want to use svn had to do this but find it straight forward

  • Hello Sunil R,

    Please open BitDefender in Expert Mode, click on Firewall then select the Network tab in the upper menu. Click on the current "Network Type", pull down the drop-down menu and select "Trusted Local", Stealth to "No" and Generic to "Yes". After that go to the Traffic tab. Please search for any processes belonging to the application that has this issue, click on "+" next to it and check in order to see if it has the Action "Deny" -> if this is the case please double click on the entry and change the action to "Allow".

    Let us know what happens .

    Thank you.

    Could not find the 'Traffic' tab...

    but got svn to work with the below settings,

    Trust Level: Full trust

    Stealth Mode: Off

    What will be the side effects of full trust?

  • Hello Sunil R,

    The Full Trust level it is recommended for local networks without access to internet because all traffic is allowed for your network adapter . I made a mistake in my previous post. After you click on the Firewall module, select the Rules tab. Search for any processes belonging to the application that has this issue, click on "+" next to it and check in order to see if it has the Action "Deny" -> if this is the case please double click on the entry and change the action to "Allow".

    We are looking forward to your reply.

    Thank you.

    I have added all *.exe in C:\Program Files\TortoiseSVN\bin folder to firewall rules and still same erron 'unknown host'

    I could see tortoiseCVS in whitelist, why not add tortoise svn as well?

  • Hello Sunil R,

    If possible, please make a screen-shot with the error message you received and after that, browse to the next location: C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2010\Firewall, look after "profiles.xml" and "rules.xml" files and along with the screen-shot please upload them on http://www.sendspace.com/ and post here the download links.

    We are looking forward for your reply.

    Thank you.

  • I still have this Problem on Windows 7 64Bit.

    I tried this fix and it worked. But just until the next update replaces the file:

    2. Go to the next location : C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2010 look after the file called "httproxy.dll" and rename it in "httproxy.d_", for example

    Is there still no solution for this problem?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Quite good support in this forum. Maybe my problem is not that important for bitdefender, which means I have to look for another AV-Tool.

  • Hmm, there's an edit timeout. Here's the rest of my reply (i wasn't just to complain ;-)

    Here are some more information about my system:

    - I use Bitdender 2010 Antivirus (without firewall)

    - Windows 7 Prof. 64bit

    - I tried severl SVN Clients (Tortoise, ANKHSvn, SlikSvn)

    - Problem exsist only with http URLs (svn:// and svn-ssh:// is working, but i need also http:// to work with)

  • Hello zueri,

    Please follow the steps bellow in order to exclude SVN Clients from http filtering:

    • Restart your computer in SafeMode;

      Restart your system, and while it's booting press F8 multiple times, until the Boot Menu appears. There, select Safe Mode and press Enter. After the system boot_s up in Safe Mode, a message will appear asking you if you want to continue (Yes), or make a System Restore (No). Press Yes, to start normally.

    • Go to Start -> Run, type regedit and press OK;
    • The Registry Editor will open, and you'll see an Explorer-like interface;
    • Go to this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BitDefender and select it;
    • Right click on the right panel and select New -> Multi-String Value from the menu, and name it HttpAppSkip;
    • After that, double click the newly created value. A popup window will appear, where you can set the Value data of that value. There type the full path of the application that you want to exclude (path+filename of the executable);
    • Click OK, close Registry Editor, and reboot your system normally (just choose Restart).

    After the system starts, test to see if the problem persists and let us know.

    Thank you.

  • This is working. Thanks for your help.

    Same problem, and the same workaround is working.

    For the Cygwin svn client add :

    C:\<installation_path>\cygwin\bin\svn.exe

    to the HttpAppSkip register entry; where <installation_path> is the directory where Cygwin is installed.

    Thanks.
