Cant Defrag With Diskeeper, Coinsides With Blank Page Error

pretty much as subject describes, since the last couple of days when the blank page error popped up lve not been able to run diskeeper defragmenting jobs manually (not even sure if the automatic ones are running either) however l can analyse volumes just not defrag any.

heres the notification log of what happens around the time l try running it:

Event Type: Information

Event Source: Diskeeper

Event Category: None

Event ID: 20

Date: 01/12/2009

Time: 20:44:10

User: N/A

Computer: STONER

Description:

The Automatic Defragmentation exclusion period has ended on volume WinXP (C:).

no error other than that however it perfectly coincides with the blank page issue.

on another note possibly unrelated, lve got a access database where l log my vast collection of DVDs so l can find them easier, the database itself is sound however using macros etc it connects to a folder of images which should load up when l choose the title of dvd an image should be grabbed from the spesified covers folder (set in varibles l coded in) however regardless of the correct file path lm unable to load the images, l wondered if there were restrictions on allowing programs to access directories in certain ways that could be disabled. in fact it might help with the diskeeper issue possibly.

    Hello Timeless,

Just in testing purpose please follow the steps bellow :

    1. Open BitDefender, click on the Settings button, choose the the Expert Mode then click on Ok. After that, click on the Antivirus module and under the Shield tab click on the Advanced Settings button .

    2. The BitDefender Active Virus Control Settings window should be displayed. Here, uncheck "Active Virus Control is enabled" , in order to disable this option then click on Ok.

    3. Reboot your computer and let us know if the same issue occurs.

    Thank you.

  • done, doesnt seem to be any change l still get an error.. though l did notice other logs as l was testing to see if the auto defrag worked the errors that resulted from that were:

    Description:

The analysis for Automatic Defragmentation failed to start on volume WinXP (C:).

however l do reiterate l can analyise volumes just not defragment them and that it started around the time of the blank page issue if it helps my diskeeper build is Build: (14.0.896.0)

with regards to the ms access issue l had, it was unrelated l worked out the problem.

  • for the time being l have uninstalled diskeeper, which allows me to defragment my system again.. if support can please fix errors with diskeeper 2010 as l prefered using it as it seemed to do a better job than the windows intergrated defragmentation tool.

  • Hello Timeless,

The "Blank pages" issue have been solved. Update your BitDefender, reboot your system and this sittuation should not occur anymore.

You can also try to reinstall Diskeeper to see if you manage to use it properly. If you are still not able to defragment , please try the steps bellow. We still suspect that Active Virus Control may cause this sittuation and we want to see if by disabling its driver the same sittuation occurs. Here is what you have to do :

    1. Start your computer in Safe Mode.

    - restart the computer;

    - repeatedly press the "F8" key several times before Microsoft Windows begins

    to load (you need to press "F8" until you will be displayed a text menu);

    - select "SAFE MODE" in the text menu and press "Enter".

    - wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation

    message; click "Yes" to acknowledge.

    2. Click on Start from Windows, choose Run, type regedit then click on Ok . Here go to the next location : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ .

    3. Click first on the registry entry called "bdfm" and from the right double click on the Start registry entry . Here change the value to 4 then click on Ok.

    4. Now start your computer in Normal Mode look if the same issue occurs.

If you want to undo these changes, perform the same steps but his time change the Start value to 3 .

We are looking forward to your reply .

    Thank you.
