  • The problem is only affecting users of the x64 versions of BitDefender.

A fix will be delivered via automatic updates as soon as possible.

Please disable the real time scanning feature until further notice.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

How can I update it when Bitdefender won't even start???

  • Can someone really confirm that the problem is bitdefender itself and not a real trojan?

I am 100% sure that it is BitDefender because it is happening on my Laptop and PC.

Just to add to this. I had the same problem on one of my other PC's as well, lucky this one was running AVG ( because I was testing win 7 and didn't want to use up a license key .)

Anywho.. the other PC had an expired key earlier this week, so I put in a new key at the time, and I was able to do a sys restore to before that date. which made BD not work off course due to the fact that the key had "expired" everything worked fine now. Uninstalled the leftover bits and checked with housecall and AVG to verify all is clean.. and it is.

wont reinstall BD until this is sorted.

Good luck all., perhaps restoring is an option for any of you...

in short not a real trojan!!

  • AGAIN!!! I am afraid to turn my computer on weekends. This is too much. That's it!

Every few weeks some kind of sh*t happens with BD.

    <img class=" /><img class=" /><img class=" /><img class=" /><img class=" />

    Goodbye bitdefender!

  • I have posted the link a few times already but it seems people are ignoring it.

When BD labs issues a new update, they will most likely update their weekly update exe file for us to run.

BD doesn't need to be running to use it.

    http://www.bitdefender.com/site/view/Deskt...ts-Updates.html

  • Any chance of a rollback update soon? You know, something to undo the previous update.

  • I have same problem. I can not believe it that BD made such mistake. All that money for what? Deleted system files and crashed OS. And after all no response from BD crew. This is not trojan. It is BD mistake. Come on boys fix it allready.

  • This is freaking ridiculous. A program that's supposed to protect my computer FAILS miserably and now I have to back and fix things. I initially thought this was a real alert so I deleted some of the quarantined files. Now I realize I just deleted files that weren't really infected with anything.

BitDefender, get your freaking act together. Check your ###### updates before you release them to everyone.

  • It's nice to know I paid money for a an anti virus program to implode upon itself and my computer. Fix asap...

  • This is the third time i have got loads of false positives like this from bitdefender 2010 in the last 2 months. The first time i did a clean install without thinking, as i have been using bitdefender for 3 years without issue. The second time i was suspicious, so googled it, and found it was a bitdefender problem, and now it has happened again!!

My licence expires next month and i will not be renewing it.

  • When trying to unquarantine some of the files I noticed there is no way to sort the files in a smart way.

For instance, I'm trying to unquarantine winamp but it's not in alphabetical order so It's taking ages to browse through the over 20k files there to find it.

A certain pain in the *ss to have to reinstall the files so it's just a tip to make some sort of sorting thingy over there (=

  • Ok, lets' find out what all common traits we all have, other than Win7 x64.

It seems that some of you have BD set to auto delete files.

WHY is beyond me but that is NEVER a smart move.

  • I have the same problem. Second time I have a problem with BitDefender :/

Unfortunately I don't think my system will be able to survive without reinstalling all the affected software/programs

    :/

Could you please test your updates before delivering then? Otherwisethe best option might be disabling the automatic updates in the future and check the forum before doing the manual update to see if there are any problems....

    offtopic.

I don't think in buying/updating the bitdefender when my license expire

  • One question. Is BitDefender antivirus programe or antivirus itself?

  • Ok, lets' find out what all common traits we all have, other than Win7 x64.

The common trait is the x64 system, because Vista x64 is affected too.

  • Ok, lets' find out what all common traits we all have, other than Win7 x64.

It seems that some of you have BD set to auto delete files.

WHY is beyond me but that is NEVER a smart move.

BitDefender shouldn't martyrdom your own pc in the first place, especially critical system files. lol

  • I think there is one unecessary NOT in the code. I mean, its quarantining everything except trojan.fakealert.5

Also I notice one thing. I could unquarantire most of the files under the quarantine tab, but the one I couldnt said that it couldnt find the path. I checked and the path is present, and the file is in it.

I figured out there was a problem when it quarantined paint!

  • Do some of you guys think that no other antivirus can have false positives?

Because that is how you are coming off as.

Mike B, are you still using the same PC?

    I am without any issues.

your responses are rather inept for the current situation.

This is not just some minor mess up, but an actual major issue for every single bitdefender users who are using 64bit systems.

The severity of the issue approach to the point where users are unable to use their computer functionally, forcing them to reformat.

All that because they paid for a program to protect their computer.

If this was a freeware antivirus, people would not be enraged as much as they are now.

Because bitdefender is a antivirus service that we pay for, us customers should expect something better than this.

First of all, how did this update get past the testing?

Do they not test their updates prior to releasing it to their customers?

simple test would have shown the BD team that the update is flawed.

Second, their response to this situation seems rather poor.

There's not even a warning on their website regarding this issue, despite how severe it is. (while some stupid facebook issue is worthy enough to be posted)

This is a severe breach in customer-service provider trust.

I know all the antivirus services out there has some quirks of some kind, but this is just outrageous.

This issue renders many systems unusable, making many vital system services broken (program manager, cmd prompt, pretty much every thing you can imagine), and deletes essential system files to even makes rebooting the computer a deadly choice to the users.

L.O.D, please just be quiet and stop enraging us even more.

No matter how much you try to protect BitDefender, this is a major mistake on their part.

  • I'm using BitDefender Gamesafe with Vista Ultimate 64.

    This ######

The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago with the last fake positive. GET YOUR CRAP TOGETHER BITDEFENDER!!!! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

I had a hunch it would be a fake positive again so i stopped it early. HOWEVER, it managed to delete itself, yet another hint that it was a false positive. Thus i couldn't restore anything from quarantine or even start bitdefender.

It also managed to kill Windows Install. So after dealing with that, the only thing i could do was reinstall bitdefender. NOW THE QUARANTINE FILES ARE GONE!! Thanks a lot. now i have to go and reinstall windows.

  • herman, I know it's not a minor issue.

You forget, I started the thread so I have the same issue.

But my posts about the updater stand.

  • omg let me tell you something, i write programs for a living and when i wne to play itunes this morning, i got a an error, when i restarted it WOULD Not restart, when i finally got it to pull up bitdefender was going crazy with the tojanfakealert 5, it started blcking everything from my explorer, exe down to my winlogon.exe, it totally messsed up my whole computer, thank god i do system restore every 40 minutes. This is out of control, you guys seriously need to fix this ASAP! All of my computers in my home are running bd, and will soon stop if this problem isnt ceased.

  • Do some of you guys think that no other antivirus can have false positives?

Because that is how you are coming off as.

Mike B, are you still using the same PC?

    I am without any issues.

I am using the same PC now. When I saw the alerts popping up left and right I quickly restarted my PC and did a system restore then went on this site and saw that it was BD going crazy. Luckily I was able to restore the quarantine files before it went too far and turn auto protection off.

  • Windows 64-bit ... started this morning with a bunch of blocked tasks involving FakeAlert.5

Seemingly random system files ... pretty much any windows operation.

I've had many of the same symptoms reported here - eventually BD labotamised itself and wouldn't load at startup - took a bunch of key windows files down with it and I wasn't even able to run the bitdefender uninstaller/repair function ...

I rebooted to my windows disc and did a SYSTEM RESTORE to my most recent (a few days old)

So I'm back in action again - windows is fixed, but I'm back to square one with BD and it's false positives.

I guess I just turn it off until there's a solution posted.

What a mess, I won't ragequit from Bitdefender from this ...

Why does this always happen on weekends?? haha.

    Cheers!

I think people are jumping the gun here though.

If the files are quarantined, they can be restored when a fix is applied.

But if you have it set to auto delete stuff, you are being foolish.

  • hello All,

    I have the same issue.

Bitdefender move a lot of windows / system32 files in quarantine.

When I restart the computer, impossible to start Windows.

So, I restart Windows from a ghost image.

    Windows start correctly.

Bitdefender update its database and start the samething !!! I stop the antivirus and restaure the file immediatly.

So, yes It's a bug of the bitdefender update and it seem it's only for user of Windows 7 64 bits.

    best regards;

    Alain

  • Is there any ETA on a fix from BitDefender?

Also - I have disabled the real-time protection and am now trying to restore the hundreds of system files that have been moved to Quarantine, but each time I get a message saying "Failed to find the specified path. Please review the previous operation and try again". The message box allows me to manually select the correct path (albeit painfully) but it still fails.

    Anyone else have this problem?

  • OMG, you made me register an account here in your forum. For the love of god, I have a deadline tomorrow and suddenly this???

I am going to sue your company for destroying my work. I am in the middle of my report and this happened, suddenly hundreds of files are being quarantined and I was in panic and now my laptop wont even let me login anymore to windows! I cant even perform a system restore!!!

WTF Bitdefender!?!?! I too am running Win7 64bit too and BD just started going nuts within the last hour. Hopefully my OS isn't f*d now. I'm scared to reboot!! Grrrr way to ruin my Saturday.

  • jay, I do hope you are being sarcastic.

  • Im gonna try a system restore on my machine and see if it brings back the ###### files that were screwed with by bitdeffender... but not before in uninstall this piece of crap

  • Unfortunately for me I didn't find this thread until it was too late; BitDefender has quarantined so much of my system that when Windows (I'm on Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit) starts all I get is a black screen. I can open the task manager and start new tasks through that, but it's not doing me a lot of good right now. Is there any way whatsoever that I can fix this, or am I going to have to completely reinstall Windows - and all of my other applications - just because BD issued a bad update? Sincerely grateful for any help from the BD team or from other users, I'm tearing my hair out here.

  • It doesn't let you restore quarantine files that already exist for some reason and it causes that path issue. I had to go down the list (since I did a system restore) and click restore on each file one at a time.... I only had 100 files detected, but it's going to ###### for people with ten times that.

  • herman, I know it's not a minor issue.

You forget, I started the thread so I have the same issue.

But my posts about the updater stand.

and how do you suppose updating will help the users who's computer has already been rendered unusable by bitdefender?

Because bitdefender deleted the vital system files, some users cannot even reboot their computer.

Not to mention that bitdefender deleted its own updating service.

So again I ask, how do you suppose updating will help the affected users who's system has already been enervated?

  • I think people are jumping the gun here though.

If the files are quarantined, they can be restored when a fix is applied.

But if you have it set to auto delete stuff, you are being foolish.

yes, but if you restart your are dead ...

  • For those who's Windows won't boot normally (with an error about login service) but will make it to safe mode you can fix the problem by disabling the bitdefender services.

    Steps:

    1. Go into safe mode.

    2. Click on Start -> Run (alternately press the windows key and 'r')

    3. Type 'services.msc'

    4. At the top of this list will be 4 entries that start with "Bitdefender". Double click on the first one

    5. Where it says "Startup type:" Check the selection to "disabled".

    6. Repeat the last two steps for each of the 4 entries.

You should now be able to get into windows normally. Bitdefender will appear to start, but then fair because it's services are not running. At this point you have no antivirus but at least it won't be deleting your system files like it just did to my one machine.

  • I'm wondering how this update could pass any quality assurance. There is unfortunately for only one possible answer…

  • hello All,

You left your net connection in place??????

  • As I stated before, why you guys set an app to auto delete anything is ridiculous.

Why are you guys restarting anyways?

  • Is there any ETA on a fix from BitDefender?

    It's the same for me.

I hope we'll will get repairs for this situation.

  • Hello all,

Please provide the exact detection name and the file location.

Also if possible please send me by PM a sample file.

    Cris.

Did you get the needed information and files? If not I can send you it.

  • Hmm seems like Bitdefender crashed my OS, can't boot up. Guess ill use my laptop for now till its fixed and then restore my 64bit system from an image later. Lets hope this never happens again. Hopefully bitdefender team will test before releasing an update that will crash your system.

  • So BitDefender is blocking my svchost.exe . Anyone know how to unblock it?

  • Why are you guys restarting anyways?

because nothing else works...NOT EVEN BITDEFENDER! i tried opening bitdefender prior to a restart but all it did was show a white screen...

  • How do I know what was deleted? - computer noob here

    Scanned files: 4309

    Disinfected files: 0

    Infected files detected: 13

Is when I realized to stop it. I saw that fakevirus thing 3 times then decided to google it which took me to this thread.

Same thing here, only I left scan running whilst away... so my system is screwed, unless they can do a fix to restore the quarantined stuff...

my system shut down and took five restarts with repairs to get it back up barely running... but most stuff does not work.

so waiting for a fix... if I have to reinstall my system I will not be happy

don't these guys test stuff before updating us... this is not very good

bitdefender dont work any more it quarantined its self... if it was not so serious I would laugh

  • Is there any ETA on a fix from BitDefender?

yes, that's why I restart, and it was a very bad idea ... the system never re-start. Actually I have restore from a ghost. So wait for a fix without restart ...

As I stated before, why you guys set an app to auto delete anything is ridiculous.

Why are you guys restarting anyways?

now you are just annoying the **** out of me.

Perhaps because some people trusted their antivirus, as they should?

You cannot blame this situation on the affected users.

This is clearly a major mistake on BitDefender's part.

I think they should expect a subpoena for class action lawsuit unless this situation is handled correctly and affected users are compensated accordingly.

All in all, just shut the **** up. You are not helping anyone in any conceivable form.

  • has anyone managed to shutdown and so a system restore boot? Can you back a few days and disable BD2010 and at least back some stuff up?

my story is the same as everyone else. logged on this morning, and BD went nuts - Windows7 Home Premium x64
