    <img class=" /><img class=" /> WTFO!

You have to be freakin joking!

After the update today my Vista 64 os had thousands of infected dll files because of Bitfender. It got so bad I couldn't resatart vista. I wound up wasting all day resetting my laptop (Call to HP), tried in vain calling Bitdefender. Your call center truly sux. This is not the 1st time I've had a bad experience with the poor service from the help center. The phone was barley intelligible, they hung up on my 4 times, and the wait was 20 minutes for an answer. The final answer was turn off your computer and call back in 5 hours! Now that's supporting your customers.

If ever there was an implosion by a company this has to be one for the records. How can we ###### of all of our customers? I know we'll totally screw up our virus algorithms and completely shutdown their OS. And then we won't answer our phones. That should really ###### them off.

What kind of quality control do you have there? Must be a lab full of monkeys.

I called to another AV and got my system back within the 5 hours. At least they answers their phone, and actually know what their doing.

You blew it. Good bye Bitdefender!

  • I'M PAYING ΤΟ ΗΕΑR EXCUSES

    u got that cristi ???

  • Just want to say for the record, "NO I DO NOT WORK FOR BD."

I too am running WIN7 w/ BD IS 2010 and experienced all the mayhem as well. I was just reading through all this after I fixed my system myself (still haven't received the new update) and noticed that everyone is isolating this to WIN7 x64 and BD 2010. I'm sorry to say this but my other laptop received the trojan.fakealert.5 and it is running WIN XP PRO with the free PCTOOLS AV. It is not isolated to just BD so let's back off of them. I saw this same F/P Trojan on my other laptop and when running the proper scans it came up negative for any infections. I'm lucky to know something about computer systems and just want to share my experience with this virus with everyone on here.

    Anyone interested in "I survived the trojan.fakealert.5" T-shirts?

Hey Shadowx360 here's the post again. Why don't you read it to yourself quietly in the corner. That way you can hear yourself thinking.

  • Hello,

I've been using bitdefender since 2004 if im not wrong, today my laptop and pc both got **** up!!!! I'm really ###### cause I lost all my work on my desktop. I had over 60 websites of my clients and right now my PC doesnt even turn on!!!!!!!!

my laptop is really messed up too. nothing is working! Why dont u guys in bitdefender test your update patches before releasing it to public and cause issue for over thousand of users. You guys know you already lost lots of clients. my other friends just changed to NOD32 and had to restore their computers. I paid for your service and instead of protecting my system it ****ed it up!!!

    I follow the sticky tutorial

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=18789

but it doesnt work? y? cause when im trying to restore my system32 or sysWOW64 it says the path cant be found!!! what is this crap???

This is a link of the error

    http://www.igzhns.com/error.png

I need to fix my laptop otherwise im done w/ bitdefender!!!

FYI: both my laptop and desktop are running Win 7 x64

  • I was able to get up and running again using Win 7 restore. However, I have a bunch of files in my quarantine list (including many system files). What should I do with these? When I attempt to restore, BD tells me that the files already exist. Should I just ignore this quarantine list? Will it clear itself up?

If the files already exist you no longer need to restore them.

After 30 days the files will be automatically removed by BitDefender.

    Cristi

    Windows Installer....

  • Hello,

Ive been following this since this morning (when this thread was 3pages long)

This is my situation can you please help

    1) I cannot boot my system it will load windows but not the sign on screen meaning there is black screen with my cursor on it. Same thing when I try "Safe Mode"

    2) I tried using the "Startup Repair" utility from my System Recovery CD, and it did not change anything.

    3) Tried the "System Restore" option but the stored data cannot be found.

    4) Tried the "System Image Recovery" option from the same CD this failed because the image i had saved is gone

    Any ideas?

  • Windows should (at least on my machine) replace the files automatically.

Maybe not so easily for x64 Windows XP, but even though, Windows will replace only Windows files (and not all of them at that), not all the Microsoft and third party apps you installed and were quarantined. Granted you started this thread, thanks for this, but you've been trying to mitigate this issue from the start. Windows has been utterly destroyed, made unbootable/unrepairable for many customers in this thread. This is really an historic moment in IT, no other AVs "can have false positives" so destructive in such a massive scale. I worked in IT for well over 22 years, from the smallest to the biggest company, nothing like this ever happened. On the plus side, a bug so massive and global means that BD AV is a very successful product! ^-^

I won't sue BD for that and I will probably keep using their product, but their PR job is appalling. They still haven't explained what caused the problem and how it came to be. When asked, they answered that BD falsely recognized many files as "infected", that's the symptom we're all aware of, not the cause. Apart from Cristi and a few others, there is virtually no crisis management cell in this security software company.

I don't understand the need for such secrecy and hiding facts. Thousands of users already know they screwed up, nothing confidential there.[/rant]

    Hints for BD team:

    - Never roll out a new update during the week-end, except for exceptional malware crisis.

    - Test thoroughly all updates.

    - Always deploy all updates internally at BD company a day or 2 before rolling it out to the world.

This last one is pretty bad, it shows BD does not trust their own products to try them for real.

AND U DONT HAVE GIVE A SOLUTION HOW TO LOGIN ON WINDOWS...

BECAUSE SOME PPLS THEY CANT LOGIN. TO DO "YOUR SOLUTION"

  • Have you read the posts here?

I wouldn't really consider the people here IT crowd. => fingers off > do something just because somebody said it

true, for most of the people here, that would probably be the best bet. Heck, I just saw a message on the twitter watch for this of someone complaining that he just lost "6 months of his life" from this. No lie. Yeah, not exactly the people that should be trying "whatever" and hoping it works.

Well for one whoever has to work at this time at saturday has my deepest regrets.

On the other hand there is not a single sys admin I know that is responsible for a whole office security trusts 3rd party software he can harldy customize and has no backups regularly too.

Yes granted there may be some, but that doesnt really make them more grumpy as private folks that dont have a nice ActiveDirectory System with working backups for all the relevant parts with ISO images for a complete from scratch workstation.

Also I couldn't care less if I loose some data at work was lost, yes it might be a little more work to get to the point where the sys was destroyed.

But if the pictures from my kid and wife are gone I will be really furious.

Yeah, I forgot about how often corporations do full-system backups just in case they need to replace the entire system from an image. For them, this wouldn't be much of an issue (for the ones that do use BitDefender,) but that one guy that was posting in here, I think, that said they had over 100 PC's affected by it in the office, that's gonna be some work to take care of that.

Also yeah, it's those personal files that would bring more anger & rage than anything.

######, you accidentally quarantine the music files of half of the people in here and the level of rage would be double what it is now. XD

  • funny now my dvd drives dont work, cant repair my pc... thanks BD.....

  • Latest Twitter response. They are still working on it I guess.

To summarize: if bootable - wait for patch plz. non bootable = try system restore, if not working, wait for BD.

  • One thing is for tech support to ask for patience and us being polite and patient...but ###### we´ve been at this for more than 8 figging hours. WHEN IS THE PATCH GOING TO BE RELEASED???

What is the latest workaround? I tried to access my system restore points to see if I was going to be able to do so, but when I opened the system restore a window saying that it was not availble as a unexpected error was detected...wtf....

  • Chimel, I was referring to windows replacing it's own files, not all.

As for why they are not telling us, no clue.

FIX IT GUYS WITH RESTORE SYSTEM...

ALL THE PPL u get black screen or u cant see your desktop

Pres ctrl+alt+delete enter -> go on task manager -> up and left you see FILE hit there and write MSCONFIG enter then go to STARTUP PROGRAMS and there uncheck ALL Bitdifender hit ok and restart...

Before restart put the disk windows on your drive

PRES F8 and when u see the MENU HIT THE FIRST ΤΑΒ i think is REPAIR SYSTEM or somethink

    AFTER LOAD FROM DRIVE

TRY TO RESTORE YOUR SYSTEM IT LAST POINT... IT works on me the windows recreate the quarantee files

lets find out if this work to you...

  • Can somebody tell me how to restore personal files....

Restoring the entire computer just restores Windows files not personal files like Documents, Music, Pictures and such

I don't even mind if it wipes the memory, i just want to be able to go through my computer again without problems.

  • Yeah im not happy about this either. Ive just bought a 2 year subscription, but i don't feel "safe" to use it again.

I mean this is pretty messed up.

Is Bitdefender going to give a refund or something to compensate the loss..

Even if they release a patch to update the BD, it will be useless because my Windows

    wont even boot anymore.

  • Hello all,

@Angry Puertorrican: This issue has already been acknowledged by our team and the fix for this issue was released in a BitDefender Update. This means that after the update BitDefender will not detect these infections anymore.

If the update process is not working we would recommend you to use the Repair option from Start -> All programs -> BitDefender 2010 -> Repair or Remove.

The patch will be available in the shortest time possible and we will post on this topit the download link for it.

Please follow this link and read this article about the Trojan.Fakealert.5.

@Misterrr: We are very sorry for the inconvenience created. Please try to use the System Restore function in Normal Mode or Safe Mode. You will find more information about this Trojan Fakealert 5 and how to use System Restore / Last Known Good Configuration on this article.

@ambeirao: We inform you that the fix for this issue was released in a BitDefender Update and after the update BitDefender will not detect these infections anymore. Hey I wanted to ask, I have the same problem like others here... but so far i didnt restart my laptop, was waiting for a fix or something. ATM somehow windows added files that were missing, i dont think its all of them, but for example the task manager is working now.

I have more than 20000 files in the quarantine ATM. how do i make sure that they all are restored? or how should i restore them, because i get a message that says that this file already exists or it cant find the path or something.

How should i fix it all? should i restart ant everything now will go to normal?

Please make a detailed info not just foe me, but and for all the others... PS, i am Russian, so sorry if i make some mistakes

  • I really was going to buy another license of BitDefender IS 2010 but... I'm still going!!

I've been using BitDefender almost 3 years never add a problem with the program itself or virus problems and it isn't because one problem that my trust is broken!

BitDefender gain my trust by protecting me flawless!

For all of you who want to change to kaspersky!! Well i used kaspersky in the past and I just have one thing to tell you

I'D MORE FALSE POSITIVES WITH Kaspersky THAN WITH THE FALSE-POSITIVE OF TROJAN.FAKEALERT.5 CRISIS!!

To give everyone here a quick tip. I just took Bitdefender off both my computers two days ago because it would randomly grey out on the bottom of the screen. (I got tired of restarting my pc) I'm using another security suite on my pc's until BD fixes ALL these probs. I feel sorry for everyone here who is having this issue. Chances are I will never go back to BD once I'm done with my trial of a different software. Good

luck everyone. I'm happy I found this thread just in case I had a slightest thought of going back to BD.

  • what should the engine version be after the fix????

It was only less than 2 hours ago since they said that the patch would be release in a couple of hours.

2 hours is not "a couple" and no, I dunno what is but the point being, don't hold your breath. It'll be out when they finish making it, test it, adjust it, test it again, TEST IT ONE MORE TIME TO MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T MAKE THINGS WORSE, and then release it. ^^

    Too true man. Too true.

I've seen a lot of bad stuff from both the virus world and the anti-virus world. I have never seen nor heard of ANYTHING like this. It's just never happened before. History has definitely been made this day as this is, without a doubt, the biggest screw up ever created by an Internet Security company.

Hopefully, there will be a full press release on EXACTLY what caused this issue (because telling us what happened is not telling us THE ORIGINS OF THE PROBLEM.) The IT world is watching you guys.

Well this is really just the basics of a nice backup concept.

So if there are no backups whatsoever and you lose more than a day... you should fire the Sys-Admin anyway...

Yes I agree on 100 Systems this might be a big issue, but a good Admin always is prepared at least for the most common "disaster" scenarios and a broken OS is one.

  • Is there anyway to get the files back! I reinstalled Bitdefender after it happened.

Where is the patch i can't restored my quarantined files.

I have a message that said the file exits you want to replace? an when i trid to restore said the patch don't exist

I see the files in the original directory , what must i do??

    Help

  • Is there a way to fix my OS even if i cannot boot in it? Windows Repair wont work it tries to restore the files, ( i did it 5 to 6 times) rebooted and launched the repair again till i finally got an error from microsoft that there are too much error to fix the problem.

Just like that dude mentioned before, how can we fix the problem with your method Bitdefender, if it is not possible to boot the OS because your AV deleted our system files?

Could you post a way to fix this Bitdefender?

    Thank you.

I kinda couldn't care less about what is history doing right now. All i care right now are the 1 bilion 3rd party apps. files that are still in quarantine. Bitdefender, how about a patch for the quarantine, that would allow us, u know, the humble users, to filter, to align, to select those files based, on path ? that way i could restore, let's say, ALL my Adobe connected files with just 3 clicks...instead of ###### through that huge pile of quarantined poor files...

  • CHUV777, the current engine is 7.30848

and this one shouldn't cause anymore false positives?... because i dont trust this program anymore to be honest with you...

  • Cristi

I have gone through my quarantines (only a few hundred) attempting to restore them and all of them already existed (mostly BD files, System32 and SysWOW64 files). I now have the 7.30848 engine, 5474032 virus signatures, running version 13.9.19.347 of Internet Security on W7 64. I have already run the newest WEEKLY update. I have the antivirus turned off.

Is it safe to just reboot my PC? Do I need to backup the quarantine file as it seems that all of the files already exist? Should I be doing a system restore (2 days old)? Can I do it interactively or should it be done during reboot?

    Anybody from BD???

  • and this one shouldn't cause anymore false positives?... because i dont trust this program anymore to be honest with you...

    That is correct.

I updated, re-enabled realtime protection & have not had any issues.

  • I tried to do system restore to return my computer to the way it was on Friday, but the computer couldn't complete the system restore. I decided to turn it off and back on again, now I get a black screen with a mouse cursor on it.

  • That is correct.

I updated, re-enabled realtime protection & have not had any issues.

see now why couldnt BD reps respond this quickly...###### useless

  • Hi, this hit me about 17.30 GMT. I genuinely thought it was a virus so called bitdefender and after 20 minutes spoke to someone.

When I explained that bitdefender was quarantining files because they were infected with trojan.falsealert.5 the guy on the phone just told me to scan the computer and it will fix the problem if not call back.

This was not good advice - at the time 4 files were in quarantine - after running deep system scan as instructed over 25000 files in quarantine!!

The guy was very cagy, at this point i genuinely thought it was a virus and nothing to do with a bitdefender c**k up!!

Whilst still on the phone i even asked if it was correct that 1000s of files were being quarantined, his reply "just do a deep system scan, it will fix the problem".... oh dear - what a catalogue of c**ck ups.

To be honest i didn't know this was a bitdefender mistake until i started googleing and found this thread at 2 pages long... i have been following it ever since!

I think the tech support guy thought i was fishing for information because i kept asking how i could have got the virus thinking that i had a hole in my security which i needed to plug - his answer "just do a deep system scan, it will fix the problem" - i thought he was just being rude (little did i know)!!

Clearly they have handled this very badly, both technically and customer support - it will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days

Oh... and my computer... after a system restore (twice) I managed to get the update patch but i still have around 25000 files quarantined... what am i going to do about this !?!?

Come on bitdefender, pull your finger out and fix this or by monday i fear you wont be trading anymore....

  • On black screen u pres ctrl+alt+delete and did not work ?

Correct, I restarted with my external keyboard connected and tried Ctrl_alt_Del with the same problem. I think my keyboard on my laptop was not working correctly because when the problem first started every time i typed my password with my laptop keyboard it told me password error and then when i used my external keyboard my password worked. (I made sure the num lock was disabled)

I'm lucky enough to have a Netbook as a backup and, I have enough knowledge to remove my hard drive and recover my personal data from there. I really wished I created a disc image. I guess this is a good lesson to buy a external drive and create regular disk image backups.

I have never had a virus that has done more damage to my PC then what this Anti-Virus has done.

  • see now why couldnt BD reps respond this quickly...###### useless

Actually, one of them stated this pages ago but with the flood of posts, it got buried fast.

  • I have never had a virus that has done more damage to my PC then what this Anti-Virus has done.

I just wanted to /second this.

  • Actually, one of them stated this pages ago but with the flood of posts, it got buried fast.

oh please. if i can keep up with the posts, so can a tech rep. its unacceptable.

  • If the files already exist you no longer need to restore them.

After 30 days the files will be automatically removed by BitDefender.

    Cristi

Thanks for the reply. I know this must be pretty hard on you since it looks like you're the only one responding on this forum. Hang in there!

  • Well my windows 7 64bit system went haywire and slowly over time the system wouldn't do anything. Couldn't get into task manager, safe mode, system restore as every time I activated something Bit defender treated it like a virus and quarantined the files. Found out on the web (via laptop with different anti virus) that latest Bit defender update was the problem. Disabled real time protection forever as instructed by Bit defender. Restored all quarantined files, about a 1000 of them as I didn't know what was going on at the time. Some say no restore path or will ask to overwrite. Just delete those ones. Then tried system restore to a previous restore point but didn't work as it said Bit defender was running. Uninstalled Bit defender from my system completely through programs and features in control panel. Rebooted and went into safe mode (press f8 during boot then select safe mode). Went to control panel, recovery, and did system restore to nearest restore point (yesterday). Bingo everything now works fine. Will reinstall Bit defender now the problem is solved. Hope Bit defender takes better care of their updates in the future. I almost lost all my data as I was ready to reformat my system.

  • For this situation you need to repair BitDefender.

Go to Start->All Programs ->BitDefender 2010-> Repair or Remove.

    Cristi.

Hi Cristi. I tried this solution to the same problem and it states the I must restart my computer for the configuration to take place. I am afraid to restart because it seems to cause larger problems. Is it safe to restart at this point?

  • that way i could restore, let's say, ALL my Adobe connected files with just 3 clicks...instead of ###### through that huge pile of quarantined poor files...

Man, you really want to restore all your files at this point while you can, not just the Adobe files.

Many customers don't even have access to the quarantine restore feature, consider yourself lucky.

  • @BitDestroyer - >try to restore from Safe Mode, it should work properly.

I bet that will work :P

  • Solutions for people who cannot boot

I have decided to go ahead and remove my hard drive and use a dock and connect it to my Netbook and recover my personal data (400+ GB of data)

I guess reformatting is my only option.

I see 2 options for everyone who cannot boot

    1. Backup your data like I am or take it to a local computer repair shop and have them do it, and try to have BitDefender pay for it. I feel they are liable for releasing a faulty update. If you buy a car that spontaneously combusted if you go 60mph the car maker is liable for damages.

    2. If the immediate use of your computer is more important then your data, do a system restore and flam BitDefender till the day you die, or they do.
