Internet Lagging After Installing Internet Security 2010

Options

Purchased and installed BDIS 2010 last week. The past few days, my browsing (Firefox 3.x and IE 8) started to lag when surfing into various sites. The problem was only with Internet and getting links within my email program to launch. If I click on a link in Firefox for example, it would "hang" for 20 seconds or more, and THEN open up the new page. That is usually an immediate process. So.. I've uninstalled BDIS 2010 and now my browsers are working fine. I tried looking for a solution within the program, but didn't see anything obvious.

Are there any solutions? I've read other posts and have noticed others are having similar performance issues. This is my 4th generation of BitDefender and the first time I've had any issues like this. I like the program and hope there is a work-around.

Look forward to a solution.

  • Yea.it happen to my computer too. When i open my browsing (Firefox v.3.x) it start to lag when opening some website.I hope Bitdefender Team can fix this problem.

    Thank you.

  • Hello stelorone and Farid Malaysia,

Please be so kind as to disable the Antiphishing toolbar and tell us if this issue still persists. You can disable it directly from your browser:

    - for Internet Explorer: go to Tools -> Manage Add-ons -> Toolbars and Extensions -> BitDefender Toolbar ->Disable

    - for Mozilla Firefox: go to Tools -> Add-ons -> BitDefender Antiphishing Toolbar -> Disable

If it works with it disabled please provide us with further details, like Operating System, system architecture (32/64 bits), BitDefender product and version.

    Looking forward for your reply.

Hi, that's an issue that almost everyone with the anti-phishing toolbar turned on is experiencing.

You have to disable it and everything will go back to normal. To do it in Firefox just click on it and select disable.

  • I'll re-install it and then see about adjusting it. But a question I have is - if this is such an issue, is there a "fix" other than turning off a component that is supposed to keep our machines safer? One of the points of buying BDIS is to have anti-phishing running. This worked in my last version (2009) so why is it such an issue now? Let's hope that the team actually fixes this.

  • Hello all,

The issue that you have reported has been acknowledged by our team and is currently being worked on for a fix. The fix will be done by means of automatic update and won't require any additional action from your part. At this moment, the only workaround is to disable the Antiphishing toolbar.

Thank you for your support and patience.

Thank you Carmen. If it is an automatic update, how will we know that it is OK to turn Antiphishing back on? Just wondering...

  • Hello all,

An update has been released a few hours ago to fix this issue.

Make sure that your BitDefender is up to date, turn on the Antiphishing and let us know the outcome.

    Thank you.

  • Wow. I just turned off anitphishing and my internet is working great again. I have been dealing with this issue for months. Its awesome to be able to use internet without 20 second lag before you do anything

I will leave antiphishing off until more people have sucess with it on. What is the point of this anyway? Don't most browsers have antiphising protection anyway?

  • oohh yeaa!! it work fine right now.I open website with no problem.

Thanks for your help BitDefender Team.

  • I will try the update and report

    many thanks

But, after update my Firefox is still freezing.

Support: Please open again topic, people may inform you about more bugs. Problem is not solved yet.

  • I have to agree the problem is not solved at the moment.

    It was solved briefly.

But after a few days the issue has returned.

I have enabled and disabled the add-on with immediate and obvious effect.

Then the add-on is running it takes 8 to 15 seconds for a new page to be active.

With the add-on disabled a new page is active immediately.

  • Hi there,

I have BIS 2010 and Firefox 3.6 on seven x64

I’m having problems with anti-phishing tool bar

When I start Firefox some of my ads ons are grayed out and I have to run an update from FF

Then hi apply a compatibility update I restart FF and I’m ready to go

But I have to do this every time I start my computer or log in

1: anti-phishing tool bar disable on FF and BIS 2010 I really don’t use it

2: I can’t uninstall it from FF (just disable it)

3: why Bitdefender labs obligate us to use this (cause even disable you have problems with it)

Q: how do I get rid of this crap forever???

Ps: it will be nice from bitdefender labs to let the choice to end users to install it or not

    Thanks

    Dear support,

here is something that might help you fixing the browser-freeze-bug on your phishing filter:

After booting everything works as expected - even your ph-filter.

But when the notebook has entered the suspend-mode and then is turned to life again, the freeze-problem is back agian.

Turning off helps, but I'm not really fond of paying fully for partial usage :-(

And pls do not stereotypically ask for hardware/software configurations - it applies to IE as well as FF and Asus and HP notebooks on W7. This is a clear indication that this has to be solved on a quite basic or abstract level and has nothing to to with different configuration matters.

    links

ps.: and if anyone here did not have realized the difference: It is not a question of the toolbar, but the phishing filter function itself

  • Yep, the issue hasn't been resolved yet.

The Anti-Phishing toolbar hangs Firefox and IE.

And it's not a problem of delaying the page loading time, it's a problem of actually freezing Firefox and IE.

    Please fix this ASAP.

    Kind Regards.

  • Yes please help to solve the problem as soon as possible. The freeze is very annoying !

  • I hadn't had a chance to reply before this but I have to report that the problem remains. I've installed the latest updates and my system is still lagging big time (it appears to be worse now, actually) in Firefox and IE8.

Please advise if this issue is still being worked on, or if this is considered to be a closed case. I don't want to have to ask for my money back, but if the product doesn't work as advertised...

this problem havent solve yet. I'm using BitDefender Total Security 2010 and Firefox 3.6 with Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

The BitDefender AntiPhishing Toolbar 2.0 makes so many trouble to my Firefox 3.6. Please fix this problem as soon as possible. My BitDefender Total Security 2010 was set to automatic updates. My computer is open 24/7 for 365 days never shutdown.

  • does anyone know what the point of the antiphishing protection in BD is anyway? Most browsers already have antiphishing. Does this add any other security or just overlap protection?

  • Are these people in Bitdefender actually working on a solution ?????

    The silence says it all...

This is hularious. I was blaming my ISP over the last few weeks until I read this thread. Now I have disabled the antiPhishing, my internet speed has improved significantly improved.

It is amazing that you pay for a product you can't completely use.

  • Question: when your internet browser freezes, are there any processes (look in Task Manager) that are using excessive CPU?

There is another known BD2010 problem of vsserv.exe hogging up to 100% CPU, and I was wondering if these two apparently different issues are in fact the same?

I have been suffering the vsserv.exe issue since installation in Jan, but since I disabled Automatic Update, Antispam, Antiphishing and File Encryption, vsserv.exe appears to be behaving itself.

  • I'm sorry,but BD 2010 is very bad solution. The purchase was my big mistake! <img class=" /> Many,many bugs,bad support etc...

    Dear Bitdefender,

If you ever get around to reading this you might want to pass the message along to your supervisors. It has been almost 2 weeks since the last "We are working on it, message."

Are you aware that this message forum is open to the world to read?

It would be better to invest a little pr time and energy. This forum is not just being read by users in need (as if that were not enough) it is also being read by potential customers, security bloggers, and software reviewers.

It would look better if you gave periodic updates. Maybe just a little "Still working on it" type message.

But then again, it might look lame to acknowledge your software engineers are having such a hard time with this issue.

I can only assume that it is on the "fix it when you have spare time" work flow. Or, perhaps you have found a fundamental flaw in your algorithms for handling the browser issues.

Whatever the case, this is not a good PR hit for you guys. Either you look like you don't care about customer support, or you look like you have a basic issue in the software that you can't fix.

Whatever the situation is, I suggest you have some administrative folks take a serious look at how you are handling your forum. Forums are part customer support, part advertising, part public relations.

  • One thing I did correct about choosing bitdefender is that I did not buy a 3 years license..

  • Hello all,

We are still working on a fix for this issue. We will post a message here as soon as the issue will be fixed. We are very sorry for the inconveniences created.

@gxxaxx: Your feedback is appreciated and redirected to the appropriate department.

    Thank you.

im checking this forum once every 2nd or 3rd day to hopefully receive some positive reply...

and the reply is still 'working on', why not continue working until my license period is up ?

If you really want a problem solved, go to the BitDefender website and contact them there. I got a problem solved in 2 days doing that (while I waited 1.5 months here for it to never get fixed). Apparently this forum isn't the priority.
