Can't Activate Bitdefender

I've been unable to activate my BitDefender for the last 30 days. I just reinstalled BitDefender so I could test the video issue (which I posted about last week), and I cannot activate it.


"Activation failed because BitDefender cannot connect to BitDefender servers."


My key is valid, and BitDefender takes it, but I cannot sign in to activate my account. I know my login and password work because I can access everything from My BitDefender.


Been going on for a month now...


Any ideas? Only security product on this PC is BitDefender, and Windows Firewall has been disabled.

    Please open BitDefender -> go to Settings from the top right corner and Switch UI to Expert mode. Go to the Firewall module -> Network tab and set:


    Trust Level to Trusted local


    Stealth mode to Remote


    Generic to Yes


    Then go to the Registration module -> click on Activate product and fill in your email address and the password.

    I did exactly that, but I still am unable to activate BitDefender.

    Please let us know if you are connecting to the network using proxy settings. You need to take these settings from your Internet Service Provider (the administrator of the network) or you can try to find these settings in your web browser, Internet Explorer or Mozilla.

    Open Internet Explorer - > go to Tools - > Internet Options - > Connections tab - > LAN settings - > now take a look at Use a proxy server for your LAN and you should see the Address and Port of the proxy. (also, you can click on "Advanced" in order to have more information on the proxy).

    Hi Eric,


    I can see media disconnected in your picture Media state.


    Is it the consequence of the problem?


    In some forums, people advise to reset the box... maybe it could help. I don't know. it won't take long to check.


    Concerning proxies, whether we surf with proxies or not, we should have the same indication on BD and Firefox (or IE), either both settings are activated, or deactivated. If they are different, we do not get access to internet. But you do?


    If you access internet with firefox or IE but you can't activate BD, the problems are somewhere else.

    1) a total deinstallation of BD and the downloading of the soft, but it is a bit long to fulfill.


    2) deinstallation of your launcher on the computer, then you plug your box (which keeps fully installed) and you just have to input your name and your password in Outlook express to use the box without the launcher (especially useful with providers such as Orange)


    3) We could suspect a malware too (what happened 30 days ago?). To check: the presence of malwares.

    Computer was reformatted 30 days ago. Everything has been cleanly installed, and all drivers are there. No problems in device manager. Computer is fast and stable as it should be. I just uninstalled BitDefender using the Uninstall Tool, reinstalled, and have the same problem. It takes my key, but it will not sign me in online to activate BitDefender Total Security 2010. My desktop computer uses a USB wireless network adapter. I don't have anything plugged into the LAN. Really doesn't matter, as it should be activating. I have no problems with my internet. Everything works the way it should except BitDefender. I'm frustrated with this security software. Gives me several problems. An uninstall of BitDefender always remedies my issues ;) meaning I'm 100% sure it's BitDefender.

    Well, considering your (not so old) problems, there are issues with windows xp64 as well as Nvidia with the latest software.


    There, people from Bd could help to check a patch.

    True, but again, uninstall BitDefender and all problems are magically solved. Strange isn't it?

    Well... er...no.


    Your problem is the non activation of BD, so the deinstallation of BD is not a magical operation... :D


    However, if you want to keep this firewall/antivirus, it should be helpful to get information from BD if there are issues with a special motherboard, video card and so on... Give as much details on the system, it will help I think, if they have a database (*).


    Your system is clean, without virus and freshly installed, so there's something else but for usual settings that blocks the internet link. I never had this problem.

    (*) several years ago, my USB modem could not function more than one hour on my computer. No answer in (rare) forums, nothing. I tried lots of manipulation, of no avail. I eventually found a second hand book on ADSL and modems that displayed the exact bug. The controller card on my motherboard did not fit the modem I used. Hard to find out...

Any way, my problems are all solved when I uninstall BitDefender, but they all come back when I reinstall BitDefender.

    Same problem here and I posted my own thread. You may want to have a quick look at it. The error message about not being able to connect to their servers is bogus in my case and probably in yours. There is almost certainly nothing wrong with your network and your video drivers and motherboard have absolutely nothing to do with it. This is a layer 7 problem (application).


    Did you open a ticket with support on this issue, and if so have they responded?


    If not, I think I'll be getting a refund because if they can't even manage to activate the software I have little confidence that they can do much about a virus.

    Glad I'm not the only one. I'll check your thread. BitDefender used to work well in the past. BitDefender doesn't seem to respond to my support emails, so no, they have yet to comment on my activation issue.

    Try removing bitdefenders firewall it worked for me when i could not connect to there servers.

    Just had to reformat my XP x64 SP2 today, and after installing BitDefender, bam still can't activate it. Sad to see that this issue has still not be fixed after two months. There is nothing wrong with my connections :rolleyes:

    Even if I do believe that the patch is enough to help you register BitDefender I do wish to further investigate and see why exactly can't you register the software. Please provide me with the following information:


    - any other security solutions installed on the same PC


    - Is the Windows Firewall enabled or disabled


    - What error message you receive when you try to register BitDefender


    - Are you using the same login details you used to register with us (email and password)


    Please reply to the email you received from Carmen on May 5th and I will do my best in finding a resolution for the issue you encounter.

    Using a new computer, installed BitDefender, key accepted, but ACTIVATION still fails. It's now been 3-4 months this issue has persisted. Can you please fix your product? I'm tired of having to use the "tool" that was sent to me. It would be easier to fix your servers then create "tools" for activation. I live the US, and so far, I have been unable to activate any of my installations.

    What is your Internet Connection type ? Are you using any proxy / router / gateway ? Please enclose a screenshot of the error message you receive when you try to activate BitDefender.
