Bit Defender Update

I have an expired Bit Defender 9 Professional Plus. Last June bought the BitDefender ANTIVIRUS v10 Renewal (Download)121563 $19.95 $19.95

Got the activation info etc and installation failed as it says the old version is still there. I have uninstalled in the usual way but obviously sdomething is left behind, so at the moment I am without protection.

Please help. Tks.

  • Hello rayknowles

I recommend that you download and run this tool: uninstaller

Reboot your pc afterwards. Rerun the installer for version 10.

  • Hello Niels, Thankyou. You are an absolute STAR. This fixed my problem immediately after hours of mucking about. Bit Defender is very good, but it is a poor show that one can't uninstall it so easily. It is obviouslydesigned in this way to discourage people from uninstalling it and getting another product. This was no the case with me however as I had upgraded. Very many thanks again. Ray Knowles

Well, any anitivrus software leaves "marks" behind. They can either be drivers, libraries, or registry keys, which may interfere with another AV product installed afterward. You should run special removal tools for each Antivirus.

  • Hello rayknowles

Glad that I could help you. The Norton products are even worse what files that are left when you are using the default uninstaller.

  • Hello again, Niels maybe you can also advise on this. Before you helped me yesterday with the installation of the Bit Defender AV Vers 10, I asked for help to Shaun Hartmann at Herman Street Support who was the guy who originally sent me my activation key. He has not replied. Then with your advice I managed to install the new version, but with no email anti spam so I emailed Shaun again as below and still no reply. Where do I go for help now as I would like the email anti spam feature? Thanks and regards once again. Ray.

    Hello again Shaun,

I have managed to install this new update with help from the forum on

the Bit Defender website but I am very disappointed. My old Professional

9 had an anti spam facility and a toolbar which this new one does not

have. How come this is the updated one and does not have all the

facility that the old one has?

    Regards,

    Ray.

    Ray,

I have a little experience with BitDefender AV+ versions 9 and 10, and I know that they do have the anti-spam toolbar. I think the versions that have been labeled "Professional" or "Plus" have this utility, while just the plain "anti-virus" programs do not. The BD website indicates that the plain Anti-Virus v. 10 has "Full E-mail Protection--BitDefender runs on the POP3/SMTP protocol level, filtering incoming and outgoing e-mail messages, regardless of the e-mail client used (OutlookTM, Outlook ExpressTM, The Bat!TM, Netscape®, etc.), without any additional configuration." It doesn't mention anything about the anti-spam utility, just indicates that the anti-virus program will scan ("filter") the e-mail for any viruses, etc. I may be wrong, but that is my take on it. For what it's worth, I have been using AV+ v.10, which includes the anti-spam utility, and it is a very good program. Perhaps BitDefender will allow you to "upgrade" to the AV+ v.10, if that is what you want. Good luck!

  • Hello rayknowles

BitDefender Antivirus hasn't a spam filter. What CDR wrote is right.

That is only included in BitDefender Antivirus Plus (the old Professional Plus version) and Internet Security. Here you can see the differences. For which version did you buy a licence? Because the keys works only for the version where you bought a licence for.

Here you can download the antivirus plus version: BitDefender Antivirus Plus

  • Hi Again Niels & CDR (tks for your reply and advice), I have been onto this site http://www.bitdefender.com/bd/site/support.php?menu_id=14 three times and asked for help re the lack of antispam explaining that I bought the AV v10 as an upgrade from Herman Streen shop and asked if they would be willing to do a consideration in price for a version with antispam. They have not had the common courtesy to reply even once so I am really fed up and disappointed, Is there another website for Bit Defender that I can try. Also as I am very very new to this I don't know which to use out of "Quote" "Reply" "Fast reply" or "Add repy" so you may get this more than once. Sorry about that. Best regards, Ray.
