Options

Hi there,

"Scan for Rootkits" has never run due to a "Engine intialization failed!"

What should I do ?

Cheers,

Try to restart BD services(go to start, run, at the run dialog box type services.msc press on each service that has BitDefender in the name and click on restart service or start)

Also you have to look in device manager\View menu check show hidden devices.

go to non-plug and play devices and see if "profos" driver is working properly.

Or if that fails put in your installation disc. Then use the repair option. But most problems are solved when you restart the services that have BitDefender in the name just as khufu suggested you to do.

  • Actually It didn't work because I was not connected as administrator...

Is there a way to run this rootkit scan as simple user ?

    Thanks.

I have tested it on another pc and I also received the same error message on an account with limited rights. You must be logged in an account with administrator privileges. Other software sometimes also doesn't work on accounts with limited privileges. If you want that you could run it then the best thing is that you post it in the products section under feature request. You can try to gain more rights with windows shared toolkit : http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sharedaccess/default.mspx But I can't guarantee you that it will work.

  • Also, I remember that this error with rootkit scan was something that happened while using one of the initial release builds of BitDefender 10 back from 2006. AFAIK it was fixed, are you using the latest BitDefender 10.2 installation package?

What do you mean with BitDefender 10.2? Do you mean built 247 or anything else? If so then the problem isn't solved. Because I installed on both pc's the latest available build. And rootkitscan fails to run under accounts with limited rights. Or you have to try windows shared toolkit.

BitDefender 10.2 is designed for Windows Vista.

@AcceleratorX: if you don't use Windows Vista, uninstall BD 10.2 and install BD v10.

If you want to download it you came on the same download location as for the previous windows versions.

  • I have Vista but checking the version of BD it says v10 build 247.

Where can I get this Version 10.2?

Till now I think that is the latest build. The version you have is 10.2.

You can download the latest version right here :

Antivirus plus : http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...rus_plus/final/ Just double click on the folder of your country

    Antivirus: http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...ntivirus/final/

But I think you will get the same built.
