Thanks @Scott LOL, I didnt even notice there was a scroll bar Found it now 😊

Recommendation notifications are also off. These popups appeared near the system tray. They disappear on their own after a few seconds so getting an pic is easier said than done. Havent seen them today, but I could have just not been looking or afk. Could have been something triggered by a new install which I did a couple…

I see. So the settings that turn off popups dont turn off the popups. Why am I not surprised BD needs someone to coordinate between the different teams that work on this client. Pretty sure Ive metioned this a few times in recent years Scans that bypass user set exceptions and popups that bypass user set preferences…

Quick update on this: It doesn’t appear to be something caused directly by BD and is most likely originating from a windows process (I think). Windows defender, which Window defaulted to after uninstall BD, may account for the reduction in occurrences and it could still be an AV to OS related issue. I’ve been struggling…

Thanks for the reply. No scheduled scans. Like I said Im not sure it is BD. The drive has since been woken up after I posted above, but far less than when BD was on there. After well over an hour to two hours between them, compared to often 30min frequency with BD installed. It may well be an issue which originates with…

How do I turn this off? Where is the control in the client interface? At the very least, it needs aditional explaination text on the interval screen explaining that it doesnt actually set the interval? Profiles on = ignored. Restart = ignored. Wouldnt be surprised if there wasnt something else that makes it ignore it, that…
-
Can someone from BD acknowledge this is now on their bug list? Is this thread being ignored because it was read earlier before I had tested it with profiles off? Do I need to post a new thread about this to get someone at BD to notice it? BD updates the definitions every system boot, regardless of if profiles are on or off…

I put your message through Google Translate for you, so people can read it: Hi, I have the standard update settings and I noticed that after a few minutes of restarting the PC the Bitdefender download process begins and then the integrity test process (or something similar). These processes take a few minutes using high PC…

FYI: With profiles turned off and interval set to 24Hrs. I saw an update after about 22Hrs today. Im not restarting my system very often atm, and suspect the updates are triggering after a reboot. I will update more when Ive had a chance to check further. At the very least, the interval is being ignored, even when profiles…
-
So, the answer is No. It would be nice to have an option to control the update interval globally or, if not, a way to set the interval for each profile so BD isnt constantly resetting it. I also suspect that updates may be being triggered as it transitions between profiles, as yesterday I had 3 updates within the space of…
-
That explains a lot as I saw it reset from 24hrs to 12hrs today. The only option is to turn off profiles? If I turn off the 'Postpone background programs and maintenance tasks' setting in the 'congure' option for a profile type, would that default it back to the main setting for update frequency and still keep the other…

I have been keeping a closer eye on this today and up came a definitions update approx. 8Hrs after the last. I have not restarted the system since I made my forum post above and took those pictures. I thought I would just check again that it was still set to 24Hrs and was surprised to find it had changed by itself to 8Hrs.…

I hadn’t thought about this, but YES I agree with you that I also sometimes feel uneasy on these forums. I haven’t bothered to look into this deeply, so maybe I am wrong in thinking that these forums are the official forums and staffed by employees of BD? I can understand this kind of behaviour on an open-source free…

I never said it ‘offended’ me. I found it inappropriate to champion telling a customer to upgrade their system because the BD client is a resource hog. The advice that BD cant run properly on an older system may well be true. But this is something that should be handled with tact, not a meme. As an admin, I would have…

Im finding the choice to post that massive gif slightly misplaced and a bit weird. It may not be the case here, but I find that people often dont update their hardware lists in their forum tags. Hopefully people arent just assuming that is their current system, though of course it could be. Anyway, I notice it on my 5800x…

It only did it the once, but it was a fresh download from the BD website. It may or may not have been the same scan. What I find disappointing though, is that at some point someone must have changed the client and they didnt even bother to perform a fresh installation of the new version to see how it behaves? I can (kind…

Why BD? WHY???? I just reinstalled the client to give it a go and see if the forced scans are really gone. I havent even entred my login details yet, the install window is still up and my mechanical drives are being scanned with 100% usage Why is your client so obsessed with these forced scans? Where is the 'would you like…
-
@camarie As this forced scan issue has now occurred twice, can I make the suggestion that you somehow hard code the drive exclusion settings into the client's scanning functions? At least in that way, should this occur again, a customer can just exclude drives and stop the issue immediately without waiting for an update…

The processor involved (probably I7-1065G7) isnt that bad, so I dont think it is the same issue. I dont see a very high hit in CPU during the scans, not to memory either. It's all about the drive usage which BD lets hit 100%. Interesting bit of info if people arent aware: This scan 100% issue doesnt seem to happen with…

Below is one of many folders I have on a mechanical drive which seems to be particularly hammered by the forced scans. It is packed full of small files as described by lechiffre. However, in my case these are actual personal data files and images and not just application files. I do have another folder on the same drive…

Re: restarting over and over to see something different. As I mentioned originally, I was seeing it scan different drives on different days. I know it sounds completely crazy, but that is what it seemed to be doing. Another thing I noticed about these scans, and also last year's scans, was that during a scan it tended to…
-
Not sure if this is still of any use at this stage, but regarding the not seeing 100% usage: As someone that has a mix of most types of drives and long experience of these scans, I can say that it is only mechanical drives that will consistently hit 100% usage. SSD tended not to hit 100%, but usage was still high. NVME…
-
We dont have details on that system though? If it was a system with only 1 large capacity drive then it makes sense. You are testing on systems with only one drive and these systems are real systems, not just just fresh builds with nothing on them but the OS?
-
Not sure what you mean by not seeing spikes. In cpu and drive usage after bootup? Blink and you may miss it on an SSD on a fresh build. The scan doesn’t last very long at all on a C drive that has nothing on it but the OS - at least that is what I saw in previous scans of this kind. Test on a system with a mechanical drive…

@lechiffre Welcome back. The problem last year did get fixed (in May 2021), but the issue was in the client for a good 4-5months I believe. From May 2021 until now, I havent had any issues. I noticed this new problem around 14 August 2022. I like the idea of your "Bitdefender wants to kill my mechanical drives society…

Ive only seen it a few times, but I have also been annoyed by the popup adverts in the paid version. In my case it was the ad to encourage me to save all my passwords in one place. It's come up at least 3 or 4 times recently. What annoyed me was that the popup itself didnt appear to have any controls or settings to turn…
-
Even if everyone had it turned on, the client would still be forcing the scans by ignoring drive exclusion settings? Can BD please confirm if they have or have not seen this behaviour on their own test machines? Could BD also please confirm if they actually have a testing team and test machines (not VMs)?
-
Fired up my system this morning and within about 10seconds it was hammering my mechanical drives with 100% usage (confirmed was BD via resource monitor). This is in contrast to yesterday (approx. 24hrs ago) when on that bootup it only scanned my SSDs. I can confirm it is scanning different drives each day - at least on…
-
What is the purpose of having customers run performance analyzer? To see how much impact it has on the system so you can decide if it is worth fixing or not? Surely it can’t be to track down what is causing the scan. I can tell you already that the cause is BD. As Nunzio said, BD should be able to test this themselves or…

More information on this issue is available at the link below, if you are interested. I was told in a PM from one of the developers they are discussing this issue in a meeting today (which would have started a couple of hours ago by now I think). https://community.bitdefender.com/en/discussion/comment/314475
