@sleepdoc, on a few occasions, I have noticed that an update to the Antivirus for Mac application occurs immediately after a reboot (e.g., version 10.0 to 10.1) - but, the same update is not detected and reported prior to the reboot when using the "Update threat information database" from the Action menu. This suggests…

Concerning the installation of updates, one behavior of Antivirus for Mac (10.1.1.5 on macOS 14.6.1) that I have noticed is as follows. Checking for updates by selecting "Update threat information database" from the Action menu reports that "Antivirus for Mac is up to date" and no new update messages appear in the…

Over the period 21-27 AUG 2024, my experience is that Antivirus for Mac (10.1.1.5 on macOS 14.6.1) has successfully installed at least one update per day to the threat information database. However, no updates have been installed for the past 46 hours.

RE: "…it would be helpful to have a site where users could look to see the time and date of the most recent definition update; better yet, what if the program itself could be queried to tell you the "version number" of the malware database which could be compared to an online reference…". (sleepdoc) In my opinion, this is…

I received no updates to the threat information database for 72 hours (19 - 22 JUL), using Antivirus for Mac 10.1.1.5 on macOS 14.5. It is possible that Bitdefender did not actually update its threat information database for this extended period. However, from an epistemological perspective, the more intuitively likely…

@sleepdoc, I also experienced a 60-hour period (15-18 JUL) without receiving any updates to the threat information database for Antivirus for Mac. Today, the database has been updated 5 times, and the application updated to version 10.1.1.5 (macOS 14.5 ) as well.

@Alexandru_BD, the Bitdefender "Email Protection: FAQ" webpage provides instructions for using the "email protection" feature on macOS. Thus, is it truly "not supported on macOS" at this time - or, is it only unavailable with an Antivirus for Mac license? (Thank you.)
-
@Alexandru_BD, does Bitdefender intend to add the "cryptomining protection" feature to Antivirus for Mac? (Thank you.)
-
@sleepdoc, I also noticed an absence of threat information database updates on 20 FEB, 21 FEB, and 22 FEB 2024; using Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac (9.4.1.4) on macOS 14.3.1. In addition, three errors are present in the Notifications log ("error code -1011") over this period. Updates are now occurring successfully (23 FEB).

@Flexx, thank you for your recommendations. My understanding, however, is that uBlock Origin does not support Safari, and Ghostery does not have a Safari extension available for iOS. In contrast, Adblock Plus is available as a browser extension for Safari on both macOS and iOS, providing a uniform solution across the two…

FYI: I also noticed an absence of threat information database updates from 29 JAN through 1 FEB 2024, using Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac (9.4.1.4) on macOS 14.3. @Alexandru_BD, please ask the appropriate Bitdefender team to consider publishing an online log of the threat information database updates, to allow users to…

Concerning the compatibility of Adblock Plus with Bitdefender's browser extensions (TrafficLight, Anti-Tracker Engine, and Anti-Tracker Icon), a Bitdefender technical support engineer provided this helpful guidance: "Generally, Adblock Plus should not interfere with the operation of Bitdefender's browser extensions. Both…

@Alexandru_BD, I noticed that Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac was updated today from version 9.4.0.8 to 9.4.1.4 on my iMac (M1, macOS 14.1.1.). Does version 9.4.1.4 specifically contain a fix that solves the problem of the threat information database not being updated in a timely manner, so that the likelihood of this…

@Alexandru_BD, thank you for your assistance with the hot fix question. I successfully upgraded to macOS Sonoma 14.0 on my iMac (M1, 2021) - and, both Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac as well as Time Machine appear to be working as expected.
-
@Alexandru_BD, thank you for the note. Can you please update this thread when the hot fix has been distributed? I am hesitant to upgrade macOS from Ventura to Sonoma until such time as I know that both Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac and Time Machine work together without a conflict.
-
@Alexandru_BD, [1] how can a user confirm that the "automatic hot fix" has been received and installed on a Mac? [2] Is this hot fix applicable to Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac 9.3.1.2 (i.e., the version of the product not linked to NETGEAR Armor)? Thank you.

The threat information database was automatically and successfully updated this morning on my iMac (M1, macOS 13.5.2), after a period of six days with no updates received. I remain curious: is it the case that Bitdefender did not in fact issue updates to the threat information database for Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac…

I have also noticed the absence of any update to Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac (9.3.1.12 on macOS 13.5.2) over the past four days (since September 12th), with no errors reported in the Notifications window. Typically, I see two updates per day - but, this is no longer occurring. @Alexandru_BD, has Bitdefender not issued…

Readers may be interested to learn that version 9.2.0.33 of Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac has been released for NETGEAR Armor users. My understanding is that it has fixed the problem of blocked Time Machine backups. P.S.: See the thread "Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac: 9.2.0.33"…

@Flexx , thank you for reaching out to Bitdefender Support through chat. Your effort is most appreciated. @Alexandru_BD, thank you for clarifying the confusion about the current version of Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac. I am pleased to see that NETGEAR Armor users are receiving an update for Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac.
-
@Flexx, more than two weeks have elapsed since I first learned of the “availability” of Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac 9.2.0.33. Since it has not been pushed to my iMac (and since no other community members have confirmed its existence), I am suspicious that the release may have been suspended. Can you please confirm…
-
@Flexx, to clarify, are you saying that Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac 9.2.0.33 has in fact been released - and, the rollout is now underway (but gradual)? Thank you. P.S.: Can you please share the release notes for 9.2.0.33?
-
@microlaser, I am using Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac (9.2.0.12, macOS 13.2.1) with Full Disk Access enabled for (1) Antivirus for Mac and (2) Bitdefender – but, not for (3) bdagentd or (4) Installer. Perhaps that configuration might be worthwhile to test?
-
@Alexandru_BD, thank you for the clarification.
-
FYI: I have been using Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac (9.2.0.12) on an iMac (M1, macOS 13.2) for several days, and have not observed any interference between the Antivirus Time Machine protection feature and the operation of Time Machine itself.
-
Yes, @Alexandru_BD, your explanation is very helpful. Thank you.
-
Thank you, @Alexandru_BD, for your helpful and gracious response.
-
@Alexandru_BD, can you kindly clarify your prior post, and definitively say whether the Time Machine protection problem exists when using the current version of Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac (9.2.0.12)? It would be helpful to know the official Bitdefender perspective on this point. Thank you.

Hello, @Mac Guy. I may be able to provide some insight on “whether the standalone version of Bitdefender (9.x) integrates with Netgear Armor (as installed on iOS) and the version of Bitdefender that is installed on macOS.” In my limited experience, NEGEAR Armor, as viewed on the NETGEAR Nighthawk app (2.23.0.67) on iOS…

@Spopar, can you please elaborate on your comment, “I look forward to the resolution we are promised”? Has Bitdefender promised to fix the Time Machine protection problem in the old version of Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac (8.4.0.36)? Has NETGEAR promised that they will provide the current version of Antivirus (9.2.0.12)…
