Just another IT and cybersecurity enthusiast, I have tested almost every major consumer antivirus, participated in the 2019 Bitdefender beta testing program, and worked on several security bug bounties programs.

  • Well, of course, that's exactly the reason why I suggested the user to boot into Safe Mode, as you want Bitdefender to be fully shut down before disabling its services. In fact, last time I tried, it was impossible to disable Bitdefender's services while it's running, for obvious reasons.
  • IIRC, you need to boot into Safe Mode first, as you can't disable Bitdefender services while it's running. In fact, I think I read someone who tried this and worked, but maybe this has changed.
  • +1, this would be very useful.
  • Hi, OP here, yes, this thread makes it clear that Bitdefender won't implement a way to shut it off completely no matter how crucial it is, your only option is to either uninstall Bitdefender, or to boot in Safe Mode and manually disable every Bitdefender service and boot items, which is tedious but in theory could work.
  • Yeah, if you’re surprised by this, just look at this request I made: https://community.bitdefender.com/en/discussion/91650/exit-bitdefender It is clearly popular, but they came up with any sort of excuses to avoid implementing this (Some of them valid, some of them mental gymnastics), I addressed every single of their…
  • I still use Bitdefender, but I do have a problem with the attitude of this company, just look at this thread: The level of debate, mental gymnastics and downright excuses people are willing to do here to avoid fixing a CLEAR security vulnerability is appalling, and we’re talking about a SECURITY product, I never expected…
  • why even have the option included in the app? For the same reason we can set a password for the settings: All the security Bitdefender provides is totally useless if someone can just disable it. With the settings password you mitigate that, but you can still uninstall it without a password, which is a security…
  • LOL, just replied before you mentioned me. I honestly don’t remember, I think Kaspersky, ESET, and Avast (AVG too) Kaspersky also implements password protection when completely exiting the AV (A feature a lot of people also requested, but my thread was rejected for paranoid and unreasonable reasons as well)
  • it can become a chaos for user who are not tech savvy and who forget the password easily For the love of God, that’s clearly a non-issue, few people set password protection on their security solution, and those who do obviously do it for a reason, and not asking for that password undermines the ENTIRE concept of this…
  • Honestly, I think the current UI is good as it currently is, I don't think it should be changed. My only suggestion is to be able to completely exit Bitdefender for the reasons I have discussed in my post: https://community.bitdefender.com/en/discussion/91650/exit-bitdefender#latest And also for Bitdefender to have have…
  • I want to add a little update because I just noticed something, this may help the team solve this bug: This is more common when putting Windows to sleep. I restarted my PC several times and the password was intact, but sleeping or hibernating made this bug occur more often. I'm on version 26.0.32.123
  • Just to add an experience to this thread, I'm on build 26.0.32.123 and still experience this issue, please notify us if the fix is on this build or not yet.
  • Thank you Scott, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem.
  • It seems Bitdefender will keep refusing to add this "feature", so here's a rudimentary way I found to achieve what you want: Go to the folder: "C:\ProgramData\Bitdefender\Desktop\.settings\data\" enter a folder that contains a random identifier, NOT the 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 one. Copy the files in there…
  • Instead of changing that to require a password for every UAC action on Windows, it’s far more logical to implement this on Bitdefender instead. If we ask for something on this section of the forum, it’s not to “find a way around it” and make changes on Windows to fix a security mistake that Bitdefender failed to address,…
  • I'm bumping this because yesterday I found about this vulnerability (It's by definition one) while uninstalling a password protected instance of Total Security, this has to be implemented ASAP, it's unbelievable Bitdefender didn't think about this when making the uninstaller and STILL hasn't fixed it 10 months later after…
  • Hi Foxfan100, don’t bother, I’m the one who made this post and let me tell you: As with the import/export settings idea, the pause protection idea, and this one, they’ll do anything they can to avoid implementing ideas like the plague. Doesn’t matter how easy is to implement, or how popular the idea is. As you can see,…
  • I agree this idea isn't perfect, it has a tradeoff, that's why I'm not saying this should be a replacement, but an optional mode if you care about privacy like me. In my personal opinion from the past, bitdefender developers may not implement this feature. Yes, in my personal experience it's the same, I probably made the…
  • Please read my proposal, it’s very easy to prevent obvious risks like that, just force the user to set a password to exit. You could also use a clicker to disable the antivirus modules one by one if there’s no password.
  • Hi @Jason New don't bother wasting your time on this, go see my latest two comments on my request: https://community.bitdefender.com/en/discussion/91650/exit-bitdefender#latest
  • For the record, I just checked and this is literally the most voted and searched/watched request ever on this forum.😂
  • Unfortunately Bitdefender is more interested in getting a partnership with literally Ferrari, than to simply respect their own customers and let them choose whatever they want to do with their PC and antivirus. 🤣 I'm not really angry, I just found it funny, I no longer use Bitdefender, I prefer software that doesn't treat…
  • I feel 100% identified with you, I have given up on Bitdefender unfortunately, and I don’t want to use Kaspersky because of the invasion, but they are the only ones smart enough to include such a simple feature as “Exit” It’s a shame, Bitdefender has everything going for it, except their resistance to what users want. This…
  • I think they're talking about being able to actually choose what action to make when a threat is detected, instead of automatically taking an action, the user should be able to select an action when any threat is found.
  • @Alexandru_BD Is there any news regarding this? I really look forward to go back using Bitdefender, but I need to be able to exit it completely.
  • @CPL Yes, if you are interested, you're welcome to enter my post and share your thoughts, your vote on the idea could also help make it a reality.
  • Hi, Alexandru. While I understand were are you coming from with this, I respectfully disagree with your assessment. Clearly there are simple ways to implement this securely, which I'll mention below. Why I disagree: - I am sorry to mention your main competitor in this way, but it's necessary to demonstrate my point;…
  • I also hope so, you should bookmark this so you know if they add it.
