i've noticed the same, if you turn off the active virus control everything immediately runs smooth again. When you turn it on it goes bad again. Unstalling and re-installing the AV as the Dutch support offered has no result..... I hope Bitdefender can fix this because going on the internet isn't possible this way...for 2…

Google Search and Facebook would not load or would take over an hour to load. This is typical both for Internet Explorer and for Chrome. By turning off AutoScan problem seems to be solved. Any thoughts from the BitDefender team?

I did find a more permanent fix for anyone that run across this in the future. Under Antivirus --> Advanced Settings, add 3dxserv.exe to the exclusions. Now one doesn't need to turn the Real-time protection off temporarily. Thanks diesel66 this worked for me on XP SP3
