  • None. thanks for your help warren
  • followed your instructions and 'fixed' missing file using HJT. followed inst to expose hidden files but ~.EXE isn't in c:\WINDOWS\system32. Subsequent BD scans clean.
  • Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 9:30:56 AM, on 12/20/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16762) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe…
  • Have the same problem spamming me every 15 minutes or more. Done full scans with all sorts of software, BD is only thing finding and complaining about this. I am so tempted to turn it off, but afraid something real might get through. It's DRIVING ME CRAZY. I removed LoJackforLaptops and the problem seems to have abated. If…
  • I'm having the same problem. There are posts saying this has something to do with LoJack for Laptops. I do have this installed but it has been running for almost a year with no problems. I suspect a new definition from BD that picks this up as a False Positive but don't know for sure. I would just like to get rid of it.…
  • That's about where I"m at now
  • Its working for me but it took a while. You really have to be sure you remove all of your old AV before you load this guy up. After that, the GUI is not very intuitive but from what I have seen, this is industry standard. Also, the install process looks as if it is failing when it is not. A few other problems occurred as…
  • Sighs, sadly the problem has returned. Over 600mb of ram is being used and bitdefender keeps randomly failing, going all red under Status. I guess I have no choice but to contact support about this. Thanks for the advice regardless Niels. -Musfuut The issue seems to have been resolved It was a 2 step process: 1. remove an…
  • Lets not get off track. Attached is MY display in which memory usage is VERY high. I have been in contact with BD support on this and they have been responsive. They looked at the .tar that I sent them and found a Norton artifact. They also recommended disabling adaware. OK, I have removed the artifact and have, in fact,…
  • LOL Xavier..... Making all these changes had no impact. VM still goes up, BD falls over dead (screaming), computer locks up, only resolution is push and hold the power button on the box. Opened another ticket with BD, collected all the data, sent everything to BD. When I said "you're my only hope, Obi Wan", what I mean is…
  • Actually, I think I will try this. I will post the results here in a few days. I'll also let you know if my system catches a cold.
  • Certainly, I've gotten exactly three suggestions: 1.turn down bd 2.go into game mode (turn it down even more) 3.turn off adaware I'm simply not going to let my system sit unprotected just to satisfy your curiosity. I have already mentioned this. I'm not going to use my system as a 'test bed'. So, thank you very much for…
  • warren, I have a suggestion. try this: Start -> Run Type "services.msc" Find "Ad-Aware 2007 Service" Right click -> Properties Change "Startup Type" to "Disabled" Click Apply and OK Close Services Restart See if vsserv.exe's memory usage goes that high after a few days. Of course, you will be given an error if you'll try…
  • This is really quite ridiculous.
  • Watch the page space go bye...
  • I would rather not run in this mode. If I were in an online game and I knew I was just on the game server, I would do this but I'm not. This cripples my protection and I am not willing to do that. That defeats the purpose of the software in the first place. I'm not willing to test anything. I also do not get any response…
  • while changing the level of scan helped in the short term. In the long term, the problem persists. I am including a screenshot again with the settings changed to scan programs only. If I change to game mode then I am reducing the level of real time protection. If the answer is to protect myself less then where is this…
  • I have also made this change but I am not going to say yet whether it is successful. This appears to be related to how long my system is up so I will have to let it go for a couple of days first. Looks good so far but jury's still out. As long as I don't get something nasty from a file I guess I'm OK. I would like to note…
  • I guess more memory doesn't help after all. My system hung up and became unresponsive. I could not restart my system and had to resort to the power button to boot my sytem. Don't know how long BD was unresponsive but look at this piece of a screenshot. I hope they get a fix pretty soon...
  • I added physical memory to my desktop and the impact didn't affect me that much. It still does pretty much the same thing you describe but doesn't seem to go much higher. I went from 512M to 1.5G and I haven't had many further problems. I am hoping that a fix will come out soon because I want my memory back? LOL. Hey, I…
  • I can't get rid of this thing. I delete it and it appears to move somewhere else. Now its at : Object Name Threat Name Final Status C:\System Volume Information\_restore{7F7BE6F8-0D6A-488B-ABDC-75393719A72D}\RP1113\A0120657.exe=]wise0096=]wise0009 Application.Remoteadmin.GE Delete Failed (file was in an archive) when I try…
  • Thanks, I deleted it using the instructions in that link. Next deep scan, we'll see. this folder is just full of junk. I wonder if any of it is leftover from a malware item I had a few months back. thanks again
  • Wow, so what does all that mean? if it doesn't work its my fault? Well, I"m a software engineer and I will tell you all right now that I also experienced many BUGS and none of them are my fault. Bugs right from the go! Computer freezes all over the place. All related to over allocating VM. I added a gig of memory and ok…
  • I did shutdown the page file and restarted it, letting the system manage it. It is using less page file now but this issue is pretty random and I'd need to let it run for a while. I surely hope the scan engine is doing its job :S
  • The only thing I haven't tried is to disable VM and enable it again. I don't have another partition to move the page file to so that is not an option. I have reinstalled BD as this was always the suggestion for other problems. Since I added 1g of memory, this isn't so much of a problem. Right now its only annoying. Do you…
  • That would be o control panel o add/remove programs o uninstall bitdefender o install somethat that works
  • I made a mistake I meant to say BD IS 2008 - the current stuff. I read the *slow* BD website FAQ and have download the uninstall tool from them. I guess I'll just use the XP uninstall and keep the BD program in my backpocket in case it doesn't work. I also have a registry cleaner that I can use as well. Well, I'd like to…
  • Dear Xavier311 I think that you didn't understand me I do not and also the other moderators don't work for Softwin (BitDefender) I am just a normal user just as all you guys. Keep in mind that the virtual memory isn't always used. What you see is just a reserved place when your memory is overloaded with loaded processes.…
  • Dear warrentaylor and a user First of all this is only a user forum. That isn't normal the memory usage on my computer that has only 512 mb internal memory is lower than 2 MB at boot. It's normal that it increases after an update but on my computer after a few seconds the memory usage drops immediately. Right click on the…
  • Dear warrentaylor, Updating windows installer engine can solve installation problems. The same as clearing your temporary files on your computer. What also helps is closing as much processes that are running in the background including disable other security programs that are running in realtime mode. To give you my…
