I just downloaded and installed the free A/V engine that is listed as 2009. I then tried to update but its fails with "could not connect". Are there update problems?

I'm looking over the main update directory at: http://download.bitdefender.com/updates/ 2010+2011+2012 shows last update May 18: http://download.bitdefender.com/updates/bitdefender_2012/ Yet V9 shows last update May 21, and V7+8 shows last update of May 22.
