ASUS Vivobook 16in OLED with BD Total Security & VPN disconnects network adaptor on sleep

When my ASUS Vivobook 16in OLED goes to sleep, the network adaptor disconnects from internet.

Same with WiFi adaptor.

Only way to get internet back is to restart machine. No other solution restores the network.

My laptop has BD Total Security & VPN installed.

Is BD the cause of my problem??

    Hello,

I think it's unlikely that Bitdefender is causing your network adaptor to disconnect when your laptop goes to sleep. This issue is more commonly related to power management settings in Windows. Check the power management settings for the network adaptor first.

Press Win + X and select Device Manager.Expand the Network adapters section. Right-click on your network adaptor (both Ethernet and WiFi) and select Properties. Go to the Power Management tab. and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Click OK to save the changes.

You can also change the power plan settings. Press Win + X and select Power Options.

From there, click on Change plan settings
next to your selected power plan. Click on Change advanced power settings.

    • Expand the Sleep section.
    • Expand Allow hybrid sleep and set it to Off.
    • Expand Wireless Adapter Settings, then Power Saving Mode, and set it to Maximum Performance.

    Hope this helps.

  • Alexandru,
I have discovered that it definitely has something to do with the VPN, though not exactly sure what that relation is.After waking from sleep, you can see network is disconnected.

I right-click on VPN icon, then hit Disconnect and the connection comes good - but strangely the VPN does NOT disconnect. But the network connection DOES come alive.

Please indicate if this behaviour makes sense to you. It doesn't to me.

  • Do you have the Kill-switch enabled? Check if it does the same with the Kill-switch disabled. Also, try changing the protocol in Bitdefender VPN’s settings and check the behavior with each protocol.
These are the ones available for Windows:

Let me know how it goes.
