How long does a Full System Scan take?

I installed the Bitdefender Ultimate Security software on June 1 and started a Full System Scan. It's still running 2 days later (47 hours and 09 minutes).

I have a 2 TB hard drive (1.81 TB) with 1.26 TB used and 561 GB free, according to the C: Properties. So there's more than 25% free space on the drive.

I wouldn't have expected the Full System Scan, which I want to do weekly, to take several days.

Is this normal?

Thanks.

    Hi @eelkes

That question is so varied, that it's hard to say how long it should take. We've seen plenty of numbers of long hours, so your best option is to try what is suggested in this article.

    https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/37164/

From the above article: "The speed of a System Scan depends on many factors such as system specifications, large volumes of data, the computer resources in use by another software, it’s the first scan since installing Bitdefender, and most importantly, the number of archives & over-compressed files/backups. With every system scan, Bitdefender will index the files that have already been scanned, and the scan time will greatly decrease".

Check the Task Manager CPU percent when doing a System Scan, and see if the above article helps to keep it in the lower percent range. Otherwise, you may want to back off to once or twice a month to help preserve your CPU? That's up to you, as Bitdefender's real time protection, Advanced Threat Defense, on-access scanning and running the weekly, two times a week Quick Scans, should be enough, IMO.

    Cheers :)
