How does Safepay work?

Looking at the functionality of Safepay at https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/2051/ I see that Safepay is integrated with Bitdefender VPN. For VPN service I use ProtonVPN. What I would like to know is what functionality listed in the link above is associated with the Safepay browser and what functionality is associated with the integrated Bitdefender VPN?

Does the integrated Bitdefender VPN automatically launch when Safepay is used? In practice I do not see this happening. I may not know where to look.

I would also like to know what data collection and privacy policies apply to the integrated VPN.

In regard to SafePay and the Bitdefender VPN, to make online payments in a safe environment while being connected to
unsecured networks, the Bitdefender product may be set up to automatically
launch the VPN app in the same time with Safepay.

To start using the VPN app together with Safepay:

1. Click Privacy on the navigation menu on the Bitdefender interface.
2. In the SafePay panel, click Settings.
3. In the Settings window, turn ON the switch next to Use VPN with Safepay.

I'm not sure I full understand your question. The VPN's functionality will be the same as with any other VPN in this case, it connects you to the Internet by means of an encrypted and secure tunnel. ALL your traffic stays private and anonymous. SafePay is not limited to banking and e-shopping, although it was designed with the purpose to protect users when making transactions online, any website can be opened in this browser.
Of course, you may use Proton VPN, or any other VPN provider alongside the secure browser, but it won't be integrated with SafePay, meaning it won't connect automatically when you open Safepay and you will have to turn it ON manually.

Like the article says, SafePay is first of all a protected browser, a sealed environment that is designed to keep online banking, e-shopping and any other type of online transaction private and secure, and comes with a set of features designed to offer the most complete protection for online payments. One additional feature is a built-in hotspot protection to be used when your device is
connected to unsecured Wi-fi networks, the VPN.

In regard to what data collection and privacy policies apply to the Bitdefender VPN, it's important to mention that it exercises a strict no-logs traffic policy (as this is usually among the first questions asked by users).
