Blank icon in taskbar
The issue: Instead of the bitdefender icon, I see a blank icon like the ones here https://i.sstatic.net/K5pOh.png
Cause of the issue: Reinstalling malwarebytes. This happened after installing malwarebytes. Uninstalling and reinstalling bitdefender (which forced me to uninstall malwarebytes) temporarily fixed the issue. The issue immediately returned upon reinstalling malwarebytes.
Other complaints: I only switched from kaspersky because it was banned after detecting nsa spyware. My first impression of bitdefender has been bad enough that I'm already considering demanding a refund. If an antivirus program can't even do something as basic as display its own icon, how can I trust it to defend my pc? Forcing me to uninstall a second opinion scanner before being allowed to install bitdefender is obnoxious. Updates are incredibly slow compared to kaspersky, and the UI element to force an update was significantly harder to find. Why is there no option to add update to the dashboard?

Immediately after posting this, I found a more significant issue: protection settings are reset after starting a scan. I was aware that bitdefender can have an issue with false positives, so I made sure to change the setting for threat actions to move to quarantine so I could review everything. After starting a scan, this setting and any other protection setting I change reset to their default option. This resulted in some of my files being deleted even though I had previously changed the options to prevent that from happening. This is inexcusable! Fortunately, I noticed this before the scan finished, but now I can't even run a scan because it might decide to delete more files even though I have explicitly told it not to.

Uninstalling and reinstalling bitdefender for the third time, but not reinstalling malwarebytes fixed the icon issue. The update was still very slow.
Protection settings being reset during a scan persists. What is the point of having these settings if they are ignored and reset whenever a scan is run?

Hello @Woomy
Can I ask you if you have activated the profiles automatically? (see picture below) :
If auto profiles are enabled, disable them (as in my image capture above).
Then restart your computer and apply the protection settings you want.
Finally, restart your computer and verify that your settings have been retained. If your problem persists, you can contact Bitdefender support from the page below:
Follow the on-screen instructions and select the desired communication channel (chat, phone or email). For a quick contact, use the chat.
If you opt for email contact, you will need to fill out a form and then receive an email with an incident ticket number related to your request.
Please keep us informed.

Profiles were never enabled. The icon problem came back on its own, so malwarebytes had nothing to do with it after all. The problem with scan settings being forgotten and ignored persists.
This software is a joke. How did something this bad get rated so highly?
