Does Bitdefender auto delete files anymore?

Hi,

US Banned Kaspersky. I am looking for an alternative now. I tried Bitdefender many many years ago. Because of it keep auto-deleting my files(not in quarantine, not in recycle bin, not recoverable) without asking me for actions, I gave it up on it and moved to Kaspersky.

Now, I am just wondering is it still doing it? Or it is configurable now? That either pop up to ask user what to do or just move them to qurantine. NOT DELETING AUTOMATICALLY. I don't care if it's false positive or a real virus.

Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Sure, bring up Bitdefender and go to Protection → Antivirus → Advanced Settings and choose the desired Threat Actions for Bitdefender to take on found threats:

You can also customize the Quarantine settings in a similar fashion. Also under Protection → Antivirus → Settings → Manage Quarantine → View Settings where you can opt to rescan quarantine after threat information update, delete content older than 30 days, and create an exception for restored files:

Hello @KSkairo and welcome back to Bitdefender and the community.

In short, you can set what actions you want for the file in question, normally they end up in quarantine. When Bitdefender finds an infection on your computer, it usually takes automatic action against it and gets rid of the malware without requiring any input on your side. Bitdefender isolates suspicious or infected files that cannot be disinfected in a secure area named Quarantine. When a threat is in quarantine, it cannot do any harm because it cannot be executed or read. Uninstalling Bitdefender won’t restore the quarantined items back to their original location. They remain isolated unless you choose to manually restore them.

If you suspect that Bitdefender mistakenly flagged a legitimate file as a threat (a false positive alert) you can send the file that you think is not infected to Bitdefender labs for analysis. Once confirmed, false positives are corrected within hours via automatic update.

You can also restore a file from quarantine if you think it’s legitimate and not a real infection.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the info. It's great that BD actually allows user to make a choice now. Can you give steps to get to Threat Action choice from the dashboard? I was not able to find that selection.
