Isn't there a way I can jusr turn off Bitdefender vpn while I go to my banking site and then tyrn it back on when I'm finished?

Hello again.
Of course there is a way to do that.
To connect or disconnect, simply click the power button on the VPN interface.
The system tray icon displays a green checkmark when the VPN is connected.
