Scanning Device "in background" makes my computer unusable...

I use an external hard drive from time to time. Every time I plug it in I get "Bitdefender scanning devise in background" and then all open items, mouse and keyboard are inaccessible for AGES…

I would prefer NO scanning. or if it must scan, I want a timer showing its status.

Also, from these conversations, there is reference to a "Dashboard." I have no clue where that is or how to access it.

THanks.

    Hi @RozRox

The Dashboard is the home screen of the Bitdefender desktop app, and is also listed on the left hand side.

To disable or to have Bitdefender ask to scan a removable drive, can be found by going to the left hand side of the Dashboard/Protection/Antivirus open/Settings which can be found there.

And if you disable the scan option, you could always do a manual right click scan.

I hope this helped to answer your question.

  • Thanks, Scott. This was very helpful! I have worked through the settings & hope that I've made the right/desired changes without messing anything up elsewhere. Anyway, I plugged in an external drive, and the fact that I can type this note without a twenty-minute wait is testament that at least this bit is working!

    Again - my thanks!

Thank you for your reply back, Rosalind, I appreciate it :)

Yes, depending on your hardware configuration and what other app may be open at the time, could cause a slow down of some hardware (mouse, keyboard) during that scan. Bitdefender's scanning engine is pretty "intense", but is one of the best ones out there, and is why some other AV vendors use the BD scanning engine along with theirs.

I'm sure your settings are correct, otherwise Bitdefender would let you know if something critical was disabled.

    Cheers :)
