Do you have other security program installed on the device? I'm asking because running two antiviruses with real-time protection simultaneously can sometimes cause conflicts or crashes. If that's not the case, I would first check if Windows is fully up-to-date. Ensure that Bitdefender is updated as well. If everything looks good so far, check your drivers. Outdated or corrupt drivers, especially storage drivers, can cause crashes when scanning a specific drive. You can update drivers via Device Manager or the PC manufacturer’s support site. If the issue occurs specifically when scanning a certain drive, it’s wise to check that drive’s health and file system integrity.
Run CHKDSK → open Command Prompt (as Administrator) → type chkdsk X: /f /r (replace X: with the problematic drive letter), then reboot the PC.
You can also look for clues using the Windows Event Viewer. Open Event Viewer, right-click on the Start button → Event Viewer. Go to Windows Logs → Application or System. Look for any “Error” or “Critical” entries around the time Bitdefender shuts down.
