Bitdefender Using Excessive Disk Space

Hi my PC is running out of disk space. Looking at the disk usage I see that of the 1,000GB of disk space, 814 GB are being placed into C:\Program Files\Common Files\Bitdefender\SetupInformation\{sub directory}\Dumps

This directory was created on February 12th if that helps

The directory contains 52,008 files. I tried looking for an software update, but BitDefender indicates it is uptodate. If it is a 'Dumps' directory can I safely delete these files?

Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi,

I agree with @Scott here. I asked the Support engineers for an opinion on this as well, and they require more information from you @TechSupportDad. So, it will be necessary to get in touch with them and maybe provide some logs from the device, so they can find out what's going on there.

    Hi @TechSupportDad

On my end I do not have a Dumps folder, my SetupInformation/Redline and lang, temp folders combined are 77MB.

I would get a hold of support, as not knowing how all those files were populated in the first place is more of a concern to me, than if its safe to delete them.

Tick on the How To's & Troubleshooting box, go through the prompts until you get to the Contact Support button. You will be given 3 support options, Chat can be the quickest way to get things resolved, or to at least head you in the right direction (phone support is not toll-free).

Does the subdirectory start with CL-26 or CL-27? How many .dmp files are in the folder? What is the most recent timestamp, and do you notice a pattern for how frequently a dump is generated? Thanks!

  • Good questions! The dump directory starts with PADV-2. This looks to have started at 2025-02-12 21:10CST, the most recent entry is 2025-02-17 15:34CST.

    2025-02-12 21:10CST - 2025-02-12 21:32CST - Hundreds of 68mb bd_*.dmp file, and then some ~70kb bdm*.dmp files

    2025-02-12 23:30CST - 2025-02-12 21:32CST - 34 different 68 - 71mb bd_*.dmp and then some ~70kb bdm*.dmp files

    2025-02-13 15:32CST - 2025-02-13 15:59CST - many bd_*.dmp and bdm*.dmp files

    2025-02-14 16:10CST - 2025-02-14 17:04CST - many bd_*.dmp and bdm*.dmp files

« I deleted the files on 2025-02-15 to make room for the techsupport tool to run - deleted in the middle so I didn't loose the first or last files »

    2025-02-16 07:38CST - 2025-02-16 17:40CST - many bd_*.dmp and bdm*.dmp files

    2025-02-16 12:30CST - 2025-02-16 12:54CST - many bd_*.dmp and bdm*.dmp files

    2025-02-17 - many bd_*.dmp and bdm*.dmp files

I reached out submitted a tech support file and am waiting for a response.

Thanks. Do you have a ticket number? We’d like to analyze the DMP files as soon as possible and release a fix.

Are you currently using the Parental app? Is it still functional, and have you noticed any issues?

    The ticket is 1009981510.

I do not have the bitdefender parental app enabled, but my child is using an account with less privileges.

Since the system had issues from running out of free disk space, and me deleting a days worth dmp files, I have not seen any new .dmp files generated.

    Thanks!

You will need to copy and archive 2–3 DMP files with different timestamps, as these were not collected initially. The support team should have already informed you of this.

  • Thanks they did ask, and I did upload to the website last Wednesday. As a further update, bitdefender is creating new dmp files in the directory using up all disk space.
