Is helpdesk.me legit.
Is helpdesk.me legit? I was getting tech support from somewhere and this website/tool was used by the technician so that I could share a view of a tab in MSedge. All worked fine but then I had second thoughts. Ran a full system scan afterwards with Bitdefender. Looked all clear per the scan except that a file called dip.zip did show as password protected and unscanned. Hadn't noticed it before from a scan but can't locate it easily on my harddrive using file explorer.
Advice on all of the above please.
Password protected file found is:
\EFI\HP\dip.zip=>dip.efi

Hi @P-sq,
Based on my findings, helpdesk.me is the web address for GoTo Resolve, a comprehensive IT management and support solution developed by LogMeIn. GoTo Resolve offers a range of features designed to streamline IT operations and enhance support capabilities.
Now, you said that, I quote: "I was getting tech support from somewhere." What kind of support did you get and from where exactly, what vendor/company did this technician come from?
As for the file you mentioned, based on the information I could get online, \EFI\HP\dip.zip=>dip.efi found in the EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) partition of an HP device is related to HP’s Device Initialization Protocol (DIP).
This is an EFI executable file used during the boot process on HP systems, typically responsible for hardware initialization, firmware updates, or device provisioning. The fact that it is within \EFI\HP\ suggests it is an HP-specific firmware utility. Also, some HP business devices include pre-boot diagnostic utilities within the EFI partition. If the device has HP Sure Start, this file might be involved in verifying the integrity of the boot environment.So, I assume that you are using a HP device, correct?
As for password protected items, these belong in most cases to legitimate software. They are protected with a randomly generated password by their developers to avoid reverse engineering for malicious purposes. In this case, since we are talking about dip.efi, the file belongs to the operating system, hence the password protection. Here you can find out more about password protected files
Bitdefender (or any other security solution) is unable to unpack the contents of such items and scan them. To actually scan their content, these files would need to either be extracted or otherwise decrypted.
I hope the information is helpful.
