Thunderbird and vpn

My main (yahoo.co.uk) email works on my Samsung phone Bluemail with vpn on. But with Thunderbird several of my email addresses (including my main email address) hang.

Split tunnelling Thunderbird.exe solves the problem. But then I loose the benefits of vpn with Thunderbird.

Any ideas why vpn causes problems with Thunderbird email client on Win 11 laptop but not with Bluemail on Samsung android phone?

Now something strange. If I use Thunderbird to send to my email address from my email address still nothing. But if I close Thunderbird and reopen it then all my new emails are displayed. Now I need to try closing and reopening without emailing myself.

Also will see if allowing Thunderbird to open on Windows startup.

Yes I will do after a few experiments. But methinks the problem is with Thunderbird. Consistently … using my email address in Thunderbird to send an email to myself … then closing Thunderbird and reopening my emails are fetched without problems.
