Release notes for 7.20.51.200061 and required reboot on MacOS
This morning, March 12th, our MacOS users received a notification from BitDefender asking them to reboot their machines, something that had never been noticed before. Looking at the version of BEST for MacOS, I noticed that it was version 7.20.51.200061, which is not yet documented in the release notes page. Is this reboot expected? When will information about the new version of Endpoint Security Tools for MacOS be available?

Hello @saulo.guilhermino ,
This new version of BEST for MacOS is only released on the Fast Ring and the release notes were in the works. They were published a few minutes ago and can be found here:
Regarding the requirement to reboot this is something expected for some BEST versions (regardless of the OS) depending on the services that have been included in the update. Some updates can be done without reboot while others require a reboot for the changes to take effect.
Kind Regards,
Andrei

Hello @Andrei_S Enterprise!
Still on the subject of the update for this new version for MacOS, there is a strange behavior occurring during the update: All of our users who received the notification to reboot had their internet connection cut off just before the notification appeared for the first time.We have not yet been able to investigate in depth what might be happening, but we know that it is related to the BitDefender update. I would like you to be aware of this issue and, if possible, give me a solution so that this problem does not occur again.
It is happening at random times and, on several occasions, our users are in important meetings and end up being dropped from the meeting due to lack of connection as soon as Bitdefender asks the machine to reboot for the first time.

Hello @saulo.guilhermino ,
When the security agent updates its firewall or content filtering components it can cause a brief network disruption due to:
- Modern security software on macOS uses Network Extensions (NE) instead of kernel extensions
- When the security agent updates its network extension (e.g. content filtering, firewall), macOS removes the old version and loads the new one, briefly interrupting network traffic.
This only happens during the update and the interruption should be for a very short period of time. If you experience network interruptions outside of the update process then it will have to be investigated with our enterprise support.
Kind Regards,
Andrei
