Hide Warning Pop up

Hello Team,

Wondering if there is an effective way to prevent the warning pop-up from showing? I've tried the suggested way using the profile setting, but it did not work.

It annoys me when I need to close the pop-up when I'm watching sports in full screen.

Hello.

When a threat is detected, a pop-up notification will be displayed in the lower right corner of your screen and you can't disable those pop-up notifications.

Ahh thanks for confirming. Good timing that my subscription has expired. This is a deal breaker for me. I need to see that lower right corner of the screen.

How many pop ups are you getting? If it's a threat pop up, that needs to be dealt with in letting Bitdefender quarantine it, or if it's a FP to submit it, or if needed to run a second opinion scan.

Maybe one of the Mods or @Alexandru_BD can promote you to Level 2, to post an image so we can see what you're dealing with. Otherwise, there shouldn't be so many pop ups that it's that annoying.

Have you tried enabling Work or Game Profile in Utilities/Profiles/Settings? It disables all pop ups when using it in that mode.

Here is a list of all know pop ups, you could see if one of those is causing any issue as well. (most are unrelated to the lower right corner of the screen). You'll have to manually access the link, the forum software is giving me an error on that one.

Hello,

I get a lot of pop ups usually from blocked or suspicious urls. I use Kodi to watch international live sports which are sometimes not available where I am.

As mentioned, I tried setting up profiles as described on one of the FAQs to hide pop ups but it did not work.

I don't mind the notification if it just something like an icon on the system tray. The pop up is always displayed and blocks that area of the screen.

It defeats the purpose of having an antivirus to auto block threats if I need to review all of them. Does that make sense?

Yep, it does make sense, and I agree:) My opinion would be, as well as what you and others have mentioned in the past, is show a change with the system tray icon, or on the App UI Notifications panel. If it's just Bitdefender doing its job, fine do your job without a pop up.

Now, maybe for a resolution :) If it's just for that website, have you tried adding it into Exceptions? That may help to quell the pop ups. Go to Protection/Antivirus settings/Manage Exceptions and enter the URL, Online Threat Prevention.

Unfortunately, it's not just for a specific URL.

I don't mind blocking all suspicious URLs and manually adding exceptions if I want to. Its kinda expecting me to review and add exceptions right away, which I thought does not make sense.

@cezarF can you share with us exactly what the message in the notification says? So we can find out what type of detection takes place, perhaps there's a phishing threat, or maybe the page is collecting some information that it normally shouldn't, or is trying to redirect you to a page that could look suspicious, etc. It can also be a detection of an expired or unmatching certificate, which can be concerning, but at the same time it could also be a false positive detection.
Once we establish the type of detection, we can take it from there and advise further. If you can share a screenshot when this notification pops up, that would prove useful, or perhaps you can do this from the Notifications section of Bitdefender, if the detection logs are still there?

Thanks for sharing. Do you access those pages manually, or does the browser redirect you there? If you click on "More Details" and expand the notification, what information is displayed there? Obviously, there's something wrong with those URLs if the detection is triggered continuously.. the thing is, you cannot supress this type of notification, so I think it's best to avoid those pages altogether. Clearing the cache & cookies and resetting your browser is also recommended.

Hi @Alexandru_BD, It's the add-ons on the app (Kodi) that I use that sometimes open/redirect to suspicious URLs.

Isn't it ironic that I'm being advised to avoid visiting pages whereas the main reason why I'm using BitDefender is for protection?

I guess it's time to accept that there is no way around this. I was hoping that there has been some progress as I've seen similar complains from 5 years ago.

That's what I suspected, that the app redirects to suspicious URLs. And if it attempts to connect to those websites continuously, then yes, Bitdefender will display relevant warnings, and because these are security-related events, the notifications in this case cannot be disabled. You could try to add an exception for the Kodi app, but this doesn't guarantee that the pop-ups are suppressed..

Precisely because Bitdefender detects something there, I advised against accessing those websites knowingly, but since the actual app opens and redirects to those pages, then perhaps it's a good idea to reconsider the level of security and trustworthiness that the app provides. But even legitimate, well-intentioned apps sometimes trigger suspicious-looking website connections or redirections for various reasons, many of which are related to built-in advertising or tracking features.

Many apps (mostly free but also paid) rely on advertising or affiliate marketing links. These ads are often served via third-party ad networks, which dynamically load content from multiple servers. Even if the app developer is reputable, the ad network might inadvertently serve a malicious or suspicious link—sometimes due to a compromised ad network or an unscrupulous advertiser. Occasionally, the antivirus software flags specific tracking endpoints as dangerous if they have been compromised in the past or use obfuscated code patterns that resemble malware.

Also, there could be genuine threats hiding in these redirect scenarios, as some compromised pages may attempt “drive-by downloads” using browser exploits, automatically installing malware without explicit user permission or awareness. Moreover, certain malicious pages attempt to deliver ransomware payloads.
Once installed, ransomware can lock access to files or systems until a ransom is paid.

If the app you are using is considered trustworthy, then perhaps you can report the detections to Bitdefender Labs, so the security researchers can investigate those redirects and the overall app behavior, to establish if there is indeed a threat there, of if it's a PUP/PUA, or something else. You can use the form available at the link below to submit a sample of the detected URLs, or the actual app that you are using:

If the detection is legitimate, it will be kept. If these are false alarms, they will be corrected in due time and this means you will also get rid of those pop-ups.

The key issue here is the inability to dismiss or hide warnings, which can undermine security. Imagine a scenario where a non-technical family member repeatedly sees a warning about a legitimate threat and, out of frustration, adds an "exception" just to make it stop. This creates a serious vulnerability. Since I use BD on multiple laptops in my household, I worry that this kind of oversight could lead to real security risks.

Obviously, the concept behind the notification is to alert you whenever there's a possible threat, so this is the opposite of "undermining" security, imho. Myself, I totally understand that such notifications can sometimes be inconvenient, but I think attempting to stop them by adding exceptions wouldn't be the best solution.
It's like hiding the dirt under the rug instead of cleaning it up.. 🙄
But each with its own, I personally don't go on websites that push loads of ads and other nagging content, because apart from the annoyance of banners and notifications popping up everywhere, there's a good chance of malicious activity as well..

Sorry, I don't think you understand.

No warnings mean no annoying pop-up
No annoying pop-up means no option to add to exceptions
Not being able to add to exceptions easily means no security risk.

I'm happy for the threats to be blocked. What I don't like is the alert. It's not hiding the dirt, it's paying someone to clean up. I don't expect the cleaner to tell me every trash he finds.

The only obvious thing for me is the inability of this product to take in ideas. I don't think there is "value" in displaying tons of warning messages that something's been blocked if it is meant to do the exact thing.
