I get this error for costco.ca if I use a Vancouver (Canada) ip but no problem if I use a Toronto(Canada) IP

This is the message I get:

Access Denied

You don't have permission to access "http://www.costco.ca/s?" on this server.

Hi,

Most likely that page detects that you are using a VPN connection due to that particular server, so this may happen. Certain websites practice geo-blocking as a way of limiting access based on the user’s geographical location, and some pages may actually have mechanisms that detect VPN connections. Geo-blocking is done by identifying the IP address. Therefore, as a first troubleshooting method, you can change your VPN server to obtain a new IP and potentially bypass the restriction, just like you did with the Toronto server. Thanks, Craig and Alex. I didn't have the VPN on and I am just outside Denver, CO. I tried changing to a couple different cities, including Denver, with VPN and the same. Costco seems to be the only site I am unable to sign into. I will check with Costco and see if they have any information. I am fairly new to Bitdefender. Thank you again for your responses and links.

I also encounter this issue repeatedly when accessing costco.com, petsmart, petco. Bitdefender needs to figure out a way to avoid this from happening because I'm getting annoyed by it. I keep turning off and on the vpn

Nope, have the exact same issues.

it did not help. The one access blocked is costco.ca and that is if I use Vancouver. This is actually close to where i live and the Toronto one lets me access the site. VPN also blocks some of my email servers.

The thing is, certain services have mechanisms that block VPN traffic. This can of course lead to issues with apps and websites, and even email clients when Bitdefender VPN is turned on. Services may block traffic from VPNs to limit the use and access to their content geographically. If switching between servers doesn't help, the Split tunneling feature allows you to route any apps that won’t work with Bitdefender VPN outside the VPN tunnel, to access the Internet directly. In the event Split tunneling is not a solution, or it doesn't work, consider changing the DNS settings on your device. If you are still experiencing issues connecting your applications to the Internet while VPN is turned on, set the Bitdefender VPN traffic to use the default gateway on your network. Note: The following section only applies to Windows computers.

First, open your Network Connections: press the Windows windows key Start menu on your screen, then type in ncpa.cpL and press the Enter key on your keyboard. The Network Connections window will pop up on your screen, displaying several icons. Each icon represents a specific network adapter of your computer (E.g. Bluetooth, Network cable, Wi-Fi, etc). TAP-Windows Adapter V9 as this is the Bitdefender VPN adapter. Double-click on the TAP-Windows Adapter V9 icon in this list, or right-click and choose Properties from the menu. Select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click the Properties button below. Open the General tab in the window that displays TCP/IPv4 protocol properties, then click the Advanced button. Go to the IP Settings tab and click the Add button in the Default gateways section. Enter the IP address of your router, then press Add and OK to validate the modification. To find the IP of your own router:

- go to Windows Start menu ncpa.cpL , type in cmd and press Enter
- type ipconfig in the Command Prompt window, then press Enter
- your router’s IP address is shown next to Default Gateway

After following all of the above steps, reconnect to Bitdefender VPN.

Regarding email blocking, it is possible that the email provider has blacklisted the IP of the VPN server, as this may happen.
First, check if it happens when connecting to different countries. Usually this is solved if you contact the email provider and tell them to remove the IP from the blacklist.

if this helps , I was able to use the search option in the Costco App in my iPad and iPhone by changing the VPN to Toronto. Works perfectly now.

Yeah, sometimes just changing the server will do the trick. Again, it cannot be guaranteed that all websites will work when using a VPN connection, any VPN for that matter. Some may work, but this really depends on how that website handles these connections, if they are detecting the VPN or not, so if the IP is known to come from a VPN, they may block it, if blocking mechanisms are in place.
