Bitdefender Mobile Security: Chat Protection Not Working.

Hi, I noticed that the chat protection in Bitdefender Mobile Security is not working even though the feature is enabled in the app.
If I receive emails, SMS or chats with malicious links, BMS does nothing and no startup message appears. When I open the links, BMS web protection activates and warns that the website is malicious. Version: 3.3.263.2499

Is it possible to verify?

    Hi,

We looked into this and there don't seem to be any issues with Chat Protection (or Scam Alert) on BMS 3.3.263.2499.

Could you please provide some more information about the issue? It'd be helpful to know:

    • your device info (model, Android version)
    • the chat apps that you tested the feature with
    • a few examples of infected links that you were not alerted for
    • whether any of the links appear in BMS under the Scam Alert tab
    • whether all the permissions required for Scam Alert and Chat Protection are granted (SMS, Notification Access and Accessibility)

I assume that the issue was not present before 3.3.263.2499 - is that correct?

As a side note: I see that you mentioned "emails, SMS or chats" in the context of link scanning, so for the record I will mention a couple of things. Scam Alert scans SMS/RCS and notifications, which include email Notifications but we do not have any express support for email scanning in Scam Alert. Chat Protection is an extension of Scam Alert, if you will, which scans chat messages live (as you chat) from the UI of WhatsApp, Messenger (Meta), Telegram and Discord.

    Hi,

    The answers are in bold:

your device information (model, Android version): Real Me 8 5G - Android 13
chat apps you tested the functionality with: Gmail, SMS (Google app)
some examples of infected links for which you were not warned: I don't have them at the moment
if any of the links appear in BMS in the Scam Alert tab: no
if all the permissions required for Scam Alert and Chat Protection are granted (SMS, access to notifications and accessibility): all active with permissions
I imagine that the problem did not occur before version 3.3.263.2499: is this correct? Even in the previous version.

I realized that in the last emails received with phishing links I did not receive alerts. I sent myself the same link via SMS from another smartphone and nothing happened, no Bitdefender alert.

Before, when I received an email or SMS with fraudulent links, the alert went off.

    Thanks.
