2FA question

Hi everyone,

I have 2FA disabled in my central but every time my IP address changes (my IP changes often as I use a VPN) it prompts a security code that is sent to my e-mail.

If I would turn on 2FA does this mean that it will ask a security code every time I want to log in even when my IP has not changed? Or will it only prompt a security code when the IP address changes, if so then why have the option to turn it on or off in the central if it's always turned on anyway?

Hi @Petersl,

With 2FA enabled, if you check "trusted device", it should not prompt again a security code, as long as you are using the same browser. If you exchange browsers, a code will be asked for again. But this only applies to Windows and MacOS, on mobile devices it doesn't work that way, as far as I know..

Yes, I think it's due to the cookies, the thing is, it won't "remember" you if the browser is set to delete them on closing. Try to add it to cookies exceptions, like you mentioned, and see how it goes. I think it should work.

Login is actually done on login.bitdefender.com not on central.bitdefender.com, so perhaps this should also be added to the the cookies exception list.

Regarding the recovery codes, I assume they will reset in that scenario.

I use a private browser and my browser is also set to delete all cookies and history on closing, should I add bitdefender to the cookies exceptions? Or will it still remember my browser even when cookies and history is deleted?

I activated 2FA and trusted my device and added https://central.bitdefender.com to the cookies exception list but after closing my browser and changing my IP address it again asked a 2FA code.

When not deleting cookies and history at all at closing it indeed remembers my device even when using a different IP.

Are there other urls besides https://central.bitdefender.com I should add to the cookies exception list?

Also when I enabled 2FA it gave me 10 codes that I saved for recovery, it said that I can only use these codes 1 time each.

If I would ever use one of these codes to recover my account can I then reset the codes by turning off 2FA and then turning 2FA back on? Will the codes reset this way?
