Question about the Bitdefender scan

Does it just scan the apps on my device or does it scan deep in my device like in the files in my system and stuff.

    Hello again.

Bitdefender Mobile Security protects your device and data against malicious apps using on-install scanning and on-demand scanning.

On-install scanning Whenever you install an app, Bitdefender Mobile Security automatically scans it using in-the-cloud technology. The same scanning process starts each time the installed apps are updated. If the app is found to be malicious, an alert will appear prompting you to uninstall it. Tap Uninstall to go to that app's uninstall screen.

On-demand scanning Whenever you want to make sure that the apps installed on your device are safe to use, you can initiate an on-demand scan.

So, Bitdefender Mobile Security scans only the apps installed on your phone (file type: apk) and not other file types stored on your phone (file type: pdf, jpeg, doc, etc.).

    Regards.

    Hello.

Open your Bitdefender program, and go to: Protection → Antivirus → Open → Advanced, swtich off / disable "Scan only applications" and switch on / enable "Scan archives".

After doing that, this is what System Scan (full scan) does:

It means that will scan every file, folder and every app installed on your PC.

    Regards.

  • Hello @Smile and welcome to the Community! 🙂

Bitdefender does more than just scan your apps. The System Scan task scans the entire device for all types of threats endangering its security, such as malware, spyware, adware, rootkits and others. Because System Scan performs a thorough scan of the entire system, the scan may take a while. Therefore, it is recommended to run this task when you are not using your device.

In the 'Manage Scans' window, you can also set up Bitdefender to run scans whenever you consider that your device needs a check for potential threats. You can choose to schedule a System Scan or a Quick Scan, or you can create a custom scan at your convenience.

To expand more, during the System Scan Bitdefender scans almost everything, system files, registry entries (on Windows), hidden folders, and more, so it can dig pretty deep. It also watches how programs behave in real time, not just relying on known virus signatures, using heuristic and behavioral analysis. It can even scan during startup (before Windows fully loads) and monitor for ransomware activity. It can also scan archives and it basically scans all drives, internal C:, D, etc. and external, USBs, any external hard drives. The security solution actively monitors running programs and background processes, and scans your RAM for code injection or suspicious behavior (used in some malware and rootkits). Furthermore, it scans and monitors Windows registry, which is a common place for malware to hide persistence hooks like autorun entries, service hijacks, etc. Startup items are also monitored and the antivirus flags unknown or malicious entries.

It can also scan compressed files (ZIP, RAR, etc.), and network drives, if enabled in settings. What else.. it scans downloaded attachments and URLs in webmail; uses a real-time protection layer to block phishing, fraud, and exploit pages before you even click; detects bootkits or malware that loads before Windows even starts, and if something acts like malware (even if it’s never been seen before), it will flag it. It also has Ransomware Remediation.

Surely, I forgot something. There are other protection layers beyond scanning, such as the real-time protection that allows constant background scanning of files as they're opened, moved, or modified, Advanced Threat Defense which tracks program behavior in real time to block sketchy actions like keylogging or remote access attempts, and exploit detection.

It is really a comprehensive program that can do lots of things when it comes to security, so I highly recommend checking the relevant user guide, since this includes valuable information that will help you make good use of the product's features, so you can set it up according to your requirements. I'll leave the link below:

I hope the information is useful.
