Cloud detection?

When I submit malware for analysis, I receive an email saying that the file was indeed detected as malware and will be added to future updates. If I scan it, it is not detected until I download the update that contains the signature. My question is, within this delay between being identified as malware and the update being downloaded to the program, if I or someone else runs this malware, is it protected only by behavioral technology, or is there some type of cloud that will already detect this malware?
