Verification Required: Iphone 14

For the last couple of days, whenever I try to install an app I get a Verification Required: Tap Continue and sign in to view billing information. It requests my password.

This happens when trying to download Free apps.

My last ios update was before this started.

Because, I believe this is a virus, I purchased BitDefender today. However, I cannot get past the Verification message. When I say Allow Bitdefender to open, using the code, it says it can't do it.

Please help.

Fortunately, my bank was overdrawn, so no cash was taken. I have since deleted my payment information from my Apple account.

When an iPhone asks you to “Verify” your billing information, even for free apps, this almost always has to do with how your Apple ID payment details are set up (rather than being caused by a virus or malware). Even small leftover charges for in-app purchases, subscriptions, or older app purchases can make Apple prompt you to verify your payment method—this is how Apple ensures it can successfully bill your account.

If your credit/debit card on file has expired, if your billing address is outdated, or if there’s any discrepancy in your payment settings, Apple’s system will require verification before allowing further downloads (even for free apps). If you’ve never set up a payment method for your Apple ID or if you removed your payment information in the past, Apple might still prompt you to verify that your account details are correct.

You can try a few steps to fix this. First, you should update/confirm your payment method. Then, check if you have an unpaid or pending purchase. Even if it’s small or was “free” but had in-app purchases, Apple forces you to resolve that before downloading more apps. Also, sometimes just refreshing your Apple ID credentials helps.

If you purchased Bitdefender Mobile Security and now it’s also stuck waiting for permission, it’s simply because the iPhone’s App Store is blocking any new or updated installs until your billing is verified. Once you resolve the billing issue, your phone should allow Bitdefender to run normally.
