App Lock Keeps Turning Off

I've found that the only way that I can keep App Lock working reliably on my Android phone is by turning off battery optimization for Bitdefender Mobile. If I don't do this then I have to reboot the phone, after which App Lock will work for a short while and then quietly quit. By "quit" I mean that no apps are locked.

I found this solution after a little Googling, so it's a known problem.

Does anyone know of a work-around that will let me have battery optimization without losing App Lock ?

Does anyone know if BD is actively trying to fix this problem ?

@Gjoksi thanks for the flattering introduction, but I'm not quite the main developer for BMS. My work is mostly related to App Anomaly Detection, Scam Alert and Chat Protection. The App Lock feature is not part of what I'm working on and I can't comment on details of how the feature works.

However, luckily for @Vic B., I am qualified enough to answer this question.

Short answer is: there isn't any problem with either the App Lock feature or Bitdefender Mobile Security as a whole. There is no way to make an app run persistently on Android without disabling Battery Optimizations for that said app. This is not only applicable to Bitdefender, it's just a OS related feature.

Long answer:

How Battery Optimizations work on Android is that the OS learns patterns of how and when you use apps and based on that (and many other factors) it kills apps that are running in the background. How aggressive this app-killing behavior is varies from vendor to vendor and device to device (you can look up "don't kill my app" to see some details about this).

So what happens here is that your phone stops Bitdefender from running, whenever it sees fit to do so, and there is nothing we can do about it. It is the users' (i.e. your) choice to disable these Battery Optimizations for whichever apps they consider is necessary. Turning off Battery Optimizations for Bitdefender Mobile Security will only allow this one app to run indefinitely and protect your device properly.

Personally I do not see any reasons why you wouldn't want to do so (unless you want to use the app as a on-demand APK scanner and manually open it and scan your device every now and then - which I do not recommend).
