Sorry to hear about the issue that you are facing. Looking at it that there are a few reasons which could include power saving feature on the device or unstable network connections.
I would say to try and see if the Bitdefender VPN has been excluded from the battery optimization or power saving mode as the device could be putting the application to sleep/not run in the background to conserve battery life.
