Bitdefender suddenly blocking many sites? (Even Facebook, previously allowed sites)

After the latest update it's blocking everything. THis is the message :

Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from www.facebook.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more about this warning

net::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID

Doesn't appear in Firefox. But the errors appear in the Bitdefender logs.

That sounds like a certificate error.. The ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID error usually indicates that the browser does not trust the SSL certificate authority that issued the website’s security certificate. This usually prevents secure (HTTPS) access to the site. Since you've mentioned that this started to happen shortly after the latest Bitdefender update (which I assume is 27.0.53.265 released towards the end of June), first I would recommend to disable the Encrypted web scan feature, which can be found in the Online Threat Prevention security module. I'm suggesting this because the latest update also includes a fix for a previously known issue where some websites were not loading with this feature enabled, so I think this would be the first place to check. Naturally, the fix assumes that the Encrypted web scan can be kept enabled and should no longer cause such issues, but you can turn it off temporarily, just so we can establish if this is a recurrence, or something else.
