Bitdefender Detected APEX_Destructible_x64.dll During Steam Game Update – False Positive?

Bitdefender detected the file APEX_Destructible_x64.dll as a potential threat during an update of the game The Outlast Trials from the Steam platform. The game is from a legitimate source — it's not a crack.

It flagged the file as Gen:Variant.Ulise.528046.

The file was located at:
SteamLibrary\steamapps\downloading\1304930\Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty\PhysX3\Win64\VS2022\APEX_Destructible_x64.dll

Is this actually a virus such as Adware/Spyware or something else? Or is this a false positive? And why did it appear in the first place?

I just noticed that the antivirus also detected a "potentially unwanted item" and quarantined it.

Registry path: hklm\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Default_Search_URL

The detection name is the same as in the post: Gen:Variant.Ulise.528046

I think you could submit a sample to the Bitdefender Labs in both cases, so they can have a look. It's really difficult to say here without analyzing those files. To do this, you can use the dedicated form located at the link below:

Once confirmed, false alarms are corrected within hours. Keep in mind that in case of PUP/PUA detections, these may stay. Such detections refer to software that, while not strictly malicious like viruses, can negatively impact your computer's performance, user experience, or privacy. These programs often exhibit unwanted behaviors such as displaying intrusive ads, altering browser settings, or bundling with legitimate software without explicit consent.
