Patch Management in Bitdefender Ultimate Family Pack?

Hello Bitdefender team and community,

I'm new to Bitdefender, coming from Windows Defender, and currently evaluating the Ultimate Family Extended Pack for home use.

I was surprised to see that patch management and automation don’t appear to be included in the consumer packages. Given how critical it is to keep operating systems, applications, and firmware up to date with the latest security fixes, I would have expected this to be a core feature.

Is there a roadmap for adding patch automation to the family plans, or is this functionality only available through GravityZone?

Hello.

As far as i know, the patch management and automation functionality is only available through GravityZone, which is part of the Bitdefender Business products portfolio, and not through any Home product.

Anyway, maybe @Andrei_S Enterprise and/or @Alexandru_BD can give you more insights on this matter.

Hello and thanks for submitting your suggestion in the dedicated area. I've replied to you there as well, but I'll leave my thoughts on this feature here.

As far as I know, on consumer devices, Windows update, macOS update, and app stores handle patching for the OS and many applications. When looking at consumer security solutions, the general consensus is that an antivirus software focuses more on threat detection than software lifecycle management. There's also a smaller attack surface when compared to enterprises, so there's less need for granular control and large scale coordination in this regard. Enterprise solutions have these features mainly because businesses need to manage thousands of endpoints, servers, and applications in some cases, so manual patching would be impractical and prone to errors. They also need to meet certain compliance requirements, with regulatory frameworks like GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS often requiring timely patching.

I think we also need to keep in mind that building, testing, and maintaining an automated patching infrastructure is expensive, and I think consumers are less likely to pay for such enterprise-grade functionality in a home solution.
But it's just my opinion.
