When leaving VPN on if I disconnect from internet and then reconnect the VPN does not seem to work because the data figure showing activity do not change.

Does this only happen when disconnecting from the VPN then reconnecting?
Do you still get a different IP address from the VPN? To check go to duckduckgo.com and search "what is my IP", it should show your IP on the top of the page.
