Hi,
In July, I accidentally clicked on a malwarebot email. It infected my Windows system, and although Bitdefender removed some of the threats, it didn’t clean everything. I even ran Bitdefender in Windows Safe Mode. I thought everything was fine until both of my websites were hacked.
Today, August 14, I noticed suspicious activity as soon as I turned on my computer—someone appeared to be operating in the background and attempting to access certain websites. Thankfully, Malwarebytes blocked the attempt, and I immediately shut down the computer. I’m now running a full system scan.
I’ve found some password-protected files, which is unusual because I typically only set passwords when necessary. Most of these files seem to be related to Outlook, email, and archived content.
The reason I clicked on that email was because I was expecting a reply from the Canadian government. The email looked very convincing—the dollar amount was nearly accurate, and the formatting was professional, including both French and English text.
How can I properly remove and clean the infection? I know that 99% of my emails are junk.
