BitDefender Issue with NVIDIA driver

Hello;

Am facing issue with the Bitdefender updates, when the service automatic updates while NVIDIA application is running the games (specially fortnite) got crash.

I used to fix that by disable auto update in Bitdefender and do it manually from time to time after closing NVIDIA app so that the driver doesn't get crashed.

the issue is that, there is no way to completely disable update and make it manually from Bitdefinder interface you only have this 24 hours windows and then the app will automatically continue updates which will automatically crashes NVIDIA driver (Fortnite freeze)!

I used to make manually updates then keep the update screen not closed this will enforce Bitdefined not to make any further updates but in the new version enforce updates even the update screen kept open.

also i can see Bitdefinder if left with Automatic updates it keep download files may be 10 times a day with more than 50MB data each, this makes Bitdefinder download more than .5GB of data a day or 15GB of data a month!!

Is there any solution to permanent prevent Bitdefender to make any automatic updates?

You can temporarily disable Automatic updates:

Go to Bitdefender's settings, find the update section, and disable automatic updates.

And for updating drivers you can use a driver updater tool.

Hello.

You can disable the automatic updates only for 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour OR until system restart.

As far as i know, there is no option to permanently disable the automatic updates.

There are some alternate ways to prevent Bitdefender from automatically updating, but kindly note that disabling updates permanently will stop you from receiving the latest malware signature definitions and product upgrades, which may impact your system's security.

Below are the methods available:

1) Blocking Bitdefender via Windows Firewall: While this might seem like a logical step, it usually doesn't work effectively because Bitdefender takes over system security from Windows Defender and integrates deeply with the Windows Firewall. As a result, outbound rules set in Windows Firewall for Bitdefender update files may not fully apply.

However, regarding the firewall component within Bitdefender product itself, it might be possible to block update traffic by adding a rule for the specific update file — if the correct executable is identified. Whether this can be done and will work effectively, along with the exact file path or name, needs to be confirmed by @camarie or @dvsls.

2) Editing the Windows Hosts File: You can block Bitdefender from reaching its update servers by adding its domains to the windows hosts file. For example:

127.0.0.1 update-cloud.2d585.cdn.bitdefender.net

127.0.0.1 upgrade.bitdefender.com

127.0.0.1 update.cloud.2d585.cdn.bitdefender.net

127.0.0.1 update.bitdefender.com

127.0.0.1 update.bitdefender.net

127.0.0.1 update.gravityzone.com

127.0.0.1 update.bdc1.com

127.0.0.1 update.bdc2.com

127.0.0.1 update.bdc3.com

NOTE: These Windows host files entries are the ones provided on the internet. Only block these entries after confirmation from either @camarie or @dvsls.

This effectively prevents Bitdefender from downloading updates, including malware signature updates and software patches. However, caution is required:

If you want to manually update Bitdefender later, you'll need to remove these entries in the windows hosts file temporarily.
Be aware that this may cause Bitdefender to show update errors or warnings in the interface.

One can prevent the automatic update using the main interface settings. I think is better than to fiddle in hosts file (and the update servers might change over time, I suppose).

Will with the new updates if I select update on "system restart" and never restarted the system, the update will continue after 24 hour in silent mode even i select on system restart and made "silent mode" disable.

going on with the Hosts file it seems nice idea but unfortunately, when Bitdefinder start updates it creates altered version from the hosts file removing the following record from the HOSTS file:

#127.0.0.1 upgrade.bitdefender.com

Then after the updates it return the file as it was before the updates, after a while (maybe 1 min) the app report a virus infection on the HOSTS file.

Hello;

I had investigate the update mechanism of Bitdefender, it was too crazy. i had disable the automatic update and the silent mode update option in the setting page, i came after two hour and found the following

1- Bitdefineder show me a message telling me there is available update and wants me to click confirm button to proceed with the update (this happens while am still turning off automatic update and silent mode in the setting page)

2- i didn't give a confirm on the button for 2 min, Bitdefinder consider not giving a confirm to the automatic update screen as a YES, and it automatically process with the update!!

3- after update finished windows show "Windows Security" alert to turn on Virus security tools, i think as Bitdefinder do it's update process

4- now if NVIDIA driver is running it go crashed and no more running for any games.

Again this happened while i have turned off the automatic update and silent mode both from the setting page.

This means whatever i do Bitdefender will always keep downloading it's ~50-90MB file each 2 hours again it makes a total consumption of around 500 MB per day or 15GB per month.

I also mentioned in a previous comment that the URL suggested for entry in the Windows hosts file may not be the exact one used by the Bitdefender product.

@Hossam M but if you are gaming, why not use the Game Profile?

The following product settings are applied when the Game Profile is activated:

All Bitdefender alerts and pop-ups are disabled
Automatic Update is postponed
Scheduled scans are postponed
Search Advisor is disabled
Special offers notifications are disabled

And the games should not crash anymore because of that driver in this case, at least this is my assumption..
