Internet connection instable with Web Protection

Hi, when Web Protection is enabled on my iPhone (15 Pro) my Internet connection is lost every now and then. At least a few times a day.

I did my research and found more people with this issue. Yet no fix but completely disabling Web protection. I even tried completely removing and reinstalling the app. Nothing works.

So what happens is that when I am on my iPhone connected to WiFi, suddenly the Internet (browsing or app) gives no response. Wifi still connected with full signal. I checked in my Deco (XE75) and indeed the phone is connected but no traffic up or down.

Only way to fix then is to disable WiFi so it gets back going on 5G and then I can enable WiFi again and Internet is back.

I am now pretty sure it has to do with the Web Protection VPN that process all requests to Bitdefender DNS for scanning.

This gets so frustrating that I now disabled Web protection but that is the important functionality I got the Bitdefender license for…

Please help me fix this.

On iOS, Web Protection is implemented using a local VPN profile. This is the only way iOS allows security apps to filter traffic. All your DNS and web requests are routed through Bitdefender’s protection layer. If anything interferes with that flow, such as router settings, VPN conflicts, or DNS instability, the result can be exactly what you’re seeing: the Wi-Fi connection shows full bars, but no traffic actually flows.

There are a couple of things to try next, and you can skip the steps you've already tried. If you have any other VPNs, ad-blockers, or DNS filtering apps (even Apple’s Private Relay), they may conflict with Web Protection, so check under settings → general → VPN & device management and make sure only Bitdefender’s VPN profile is active.

Since you mentioned a Deco XE75 mesh system, check if you have any custom DNS settings, parental controls, or traffic filtering enabled. These can double up with Bitdefender’s filtering. Try setting your Deco to use automatic DNS from your ISP. Alternatively, if you already use a custom DNS like Google (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), see if disabling those helps.

You could also try to reset the VPN profile. To do this, go back to settings → general → VPN & device management and delete the Web Protection profile manually. Add the profile again. One more thing, since you mentioned 5G works fine, try disabling IPv6 on your Deco temporarily, as some mesh setups with IPv6 can conflict with DNS-over-VPN setups..

If nothing helps, I think this is likely a compatibility issue between the VPN tunnel and your Deco setup..
