No internet connection without VPN

VPN version 27.2.3.8(b) Windows 11

Randomly, when this computer starts it will show connected to wi-fi but no internet. I can access my LAN but not the outside internet. If I connect to VPN, internet connectivity is restored. When I disconnect VPN, internet connectivity remains. If the computer goes to sleep while VPN active, when it wakes there is no internet connection until I reconnect VPN. If I disconnect VPN before allowing computer to sleep, after waking it has internet connectivity as usual.

Rebooting the machine without connecting VPN sometimes fixes the issue and it will see the external internet after reboot without VPN.

I have repeatedly tried DNS resets but that has no effect. I have multiple other Windows machines and none of them show this issue.

To me, this sounds like a possible network conflict. My best guess would be that there are multiple network drivers installed by applications such as your antivirus, firewalls, traffic monitors, etc. From your description it doesn't seem to be related to the VPN app at all. It seems more like the VPN has become a workaround, since you mentioned that sometimes a simple reboot solves this regardless of the VPN status..
I would recommend to contact Bitdefender Support directly, for further investigation. But before that, check the Kill-Switch status and if it is ON, disable it and monitor it. But then again, I think it's unlikely for this to be the cause, because the Kill-Switch doesn't interfere while the VPN is OFF. So maybe the Support engineers need to take a closer look.
