Rootkit survives past format and infects new laptop

My internernal network has been infiltrated with a hacked proxy machine i put inside my network carelessly.

The virus has not been picked up by bitdefender - i've since then bought a new laptop and fully formatted my desktop pc. A week or so later the virus is back and has gone onto my laptop too.

Are you able to help diagnose the issue?

I think only the anti-malware engineers are qualified to help you here. You'll have to get in touch with Bitdefender Support, and since the antivirus was installed at that time, it should be possible to retrieve logs from it and find out what happened exactly and take the necessary steps to neutralize the threat. State your contact reason / choose request category, then choose from the available contact channels, chat, phone and email/ticket. Chat would be the fastest way to reach them.
