Suspicious file appears from yesterday when I open mozilla firefox.

Hello, my name is Dimitris and I have pc with windows 11 and bitdefender total security installed and fully updated. Since yesterday when I open mozilla firefox and file on desktop appears with the name bd_config.cfg. I wonder whether my pc is infected with a virus or malware?

My specs:

Acer Swift SF314-54

OS Windows 10 Home 22H2 x64

OS Build 19045.6575

BD Total Security 27.0.55.283

Mozilla Firefox 145.0 x64 - BD SecurePass 1.2.6 - uBlock Origin 1.67.0

The option to show Hidden items is enabled.

When i open Firefox, file with that name doesn't appear on my desktop at all, no matter hidden or not.

Anyway, i believe that @camarie, who works at Bitdefender as Principal Software Developer and/or @Alexandru_BD, who works for Bitdefender and/or @dvsls, who works at Bitdefender as QA Manager, can give you more insights on your issue.

First, i downloaded the file on my laptop, scanned the file with Bitdefender and here is the result:

Next, i uploaded the file to VirusTotal and here is the result:

So, it seems that the file is actually clean and something else is causing the issue.

Let's just wait for a reply from @camarie and/or @Alexandru_BD and/or @dvsls.

As checked, the file is not malicious. I downloaded the ZIP file, extracted the config file from it, and opened the config file in Notepad. Below is an image showing the information contained in the config file.

A quick web search of the data inside the config file shows that this code makes Mozilla Firefox web browser use the computer trusted certificates (set by the operating system), which allows Bitdefender to scan HTTPS websites without causing security warnings. As @Gjoksi mentioned, @camarie or @dvsls can provide more information related to this.

List of actions after my post:

1)Full scan with Bitdefender. Scan in rescue environment cannot be done because it displays "your windows recovery image is missing and rescue environment might not function properly."

2)Full scan with windows defender (temporarily disabled bitdefender and activated windows defender) and second scan in safe mode.

3)Scan with windows malicious removal tool and with windows safety scanner

All report nothing.

The file is not malicious and does not have any malicious code embedded in it; hence, no antimalware product will detect it.
