I am having problems using password manager says not available in private window
Hello.
As far as i know, Password Manager does not work in private mode in Firefox. It just doesn't work.
It's the same with SecurePass on Mozilla Firefox.
Mozilla Firefox 145.0, SecurePass 1.2.6:
Anyway, maybe @dbadulici, who is the main developer for Password Manager / SecurePass and/or @Alexandru_BD, who works for Bitdefender, can give more insights on this matter.
Regards.
Hi,
Indeed, as the screenshot shows, the extension doesn't run in private windows. For the record, many browsers impose tighter restrictions for extensions running in private or incognito mode, for example access to storage, cookies, session data, or the ability to inject scripts. If an extension relies on APIs or persistent state which are disabled or isolated in private mode, it's simply disabled or blocked. Given that a password manager must work securely, I think it might rely on persistent state (encryption keys, master password prompts, cloud sync) that is incompatible with private mode’s ephemeral context. It’s possible the developers chose to disable support for private mode rather than degrade behavior or weaken security. Or, the required adaptation may not be feasible, so it could be a technical limitation.
But let's wait and see if @dbadulici confirms my hypothesis, or cares to share a bit more insight about this.
Hello!
As both @Gjoksi and @Alexandru_BD mentioned, SecurePass is not currently available in private mode of browsers - primarily due to us wanting to have a predictable behavior across platforms. We have plans to revisit this topic in the future.
Thank you!
