I have been using Bitdefender Total Security (up to 15 devices) for years on Windows and Android. This year i setup my home lab and unfortunately my experience with Bitdefender is becoming very frustrating that I am thinking of switching to another security solution.
Background information:
- I have many fully local sites on lan behind an Nginx proxy.
- Examples (real URLs redacted):
- vaultwarden.test3333.duckdns.org
- grafana.test3333.duckdns.org and so on
- All those are hosted locally and my router has a dns rule to forward *.test3333.duckdns.org to my nginx's local IP e.g. 192.168.1.81
- For all those sites SSL is enabled in nginx (renews automatically via Lets Encrypt)
For the first couple of months, everything worked with no issues e.g. i could access those sites from my PC or Android phone. Later (and until now), Bitdefender blocked every connection to any of those sites.. saying
"Type:Dangerous URL
Blocked URL:https://site1.test3333.duckdns.org/
Dangerous pages attempt to install software that can harm the device, gather personal information or operate without your consent."
The problem:
The "Online Threat Prevention" exceptions do not work no matter what i add. Bitdefender seems to ignore any rule related to those sites (regardless whether i use the URL i.e. exception by URL or chose a program EXE that is trying to access them). Only after disabling EVERY item under "Online Threat Prevention", i can access the sites but this is not acceptable as it disables the whole protection feature.
On Android (in the App) it seems there is no way to add exceptions.
Questions:
- Is Bitdefender designed to ignore user exclusions for certain top level domains e.g. duckdns.org?
- If not: Can you help me please to overcome this problem?
- Can exceptions be added/configured on Android via the App?
Thank you.
