Can anyone advise how I can scan my wifi?

My google mesh is constantly going offline and back on.

I've tried all sorts of trouble shooting, off and on, nest points off and on, changing the port it is connected to on the router.

The router does not have a security product installed, as they want me to sign up to mcafee to do it. I am relying on BD and hope I don't have to go down that path.

Is there any product that will actually the main and the nested access points?

Am I asking too much of security to be able to detect if a bad actor has actually installed something in the devices?

Not all devices in the home have bit defender installed nor do they any any other security that I am aware of.

Hello,

If I understood this correctly, I think there are a couple of tools you can use, and these are actually Bitdefender features. You can use the Wi-Fi Security Advisor to analyze how secure a wireless network is, and make good use of the Firewall, by blocking inbound and outbound unauthorized connection attempts, both on local networks and on the Internet. I'll include some cybersecurity best practices as well.

However, should you require protection at the router level, I would recommend Netgear, powered by Bitdefender.
This is the best combo:

In short, this helps secure devices connected to your WiFi while extending protection on the go through the Armor app, but you can check all the features included at the link above.

You're most welcome. Yes, if you require this type of protection, the Netgear router would be the best option.
Before they used to have Bitdefender BOX that did the job nicely, however that has been discontinued for a while now.
The Bitdefender home solutions can only be installed directly on the supported operating systems, Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, so they offer local security, on the devices, but also protection on the go, for mobile. However, at the network level, I think you would need a different kind of product.
In any case, the home user solutions offer a plethora of security modules, layered defenses and customization, so you can't go wrong with those either.
I guess it really depends on your specific configuration and requirements, to chose what's best suited in your environment, the setup you're using.

Do you mean a different Bitdefender option or a different product to BD?
I wonder if I could take just a part of a different product rather than pay for a whole other product? hmmmmmmm….
I came from using Kasper, and have been quite happy with BD.

I'd appreciate your thoughts, but very much appreciate your input and guidance to date.

Also, I can't get any reference to BD in the netgear link.

I have an Old IT background, with some networking experience, but am not able to understand where BD comes into this setup and if I would need to change the router to netgear to be able to secure access or just go with the

Orbi 870 Series Tri-Band WiFi 7 Mesh Add-on Satellite (3 pack but might need to increase to extra satellites)

While I've got you, should I pressure the other computers to have security?

The other concern I have is the things like fans and Environment monitoring devices that connect via my wifi?

I think I should throw a few of these questions at the Netgear mob, as they are meant to be the experts in their product. I'm just trying to ensure I go into that question and answer session armed with a little more knowledge and descriptions so I can spot any BS they try to place on my dish. 😉

Apart from the two questions below, I guess what I'm asking is, If I have Bitdefender family plan, which I would need to increase members on and devices with 10 people (3 generations) in the house, do I need to pay again for the armor? I'll throw that question at the feet of the Netgear gurus.

Hi,

I can share a couple of articles about Netgear, mainly to describe its features briefly and explain where Bitdefender fits in this ecuation. But then again, I'm not a specialist in this area, so for technical and more specific questions I would give them a ring:

The thing is, if you already have a Family plan, I think this already covers the main security needs in a household (given that Bitdefender is installed and fully operational on all devices in use). I think Netgear is best suited for smart home devices, it does have this capacity to protect computers and mobile devices also, but you already have this with the existing Bitdefender plan. Consequently, giving this a second thought, I don't know if it's worth purchasing the router. I think this decision depends on the setup you have, the type and number of devices and available budget. It's a clever solution nonetheless, but you do need to take into account that you already have a Bitdefender plan and Netgear does come with its own Bitdefender subscription, so this needs sorting out before purchasing the actual router, if it comes to that. My recommendation would be to reach out to the Netgear guys as well, ask them your questions, then decide. 😊
